Wrexham fans are saying an emotional goodbye to Paul Mullin after the striker completed a move to Wigan Athletic.
Deep down, Wrexham supporters knew this day was coming.
Paul Mullin has become a hero since joining Wrexham from Cambridge United back in 2021.
The 30-year-old dropped down two divisions in order to join Wrexham on a free transfer, with Rob McElhenney convincing Mullin to make the move.
That decision paid off, with Mullin smashing 110 goals in a Wrexham shirt and becoming a global favourite with his goalscoring exploits.
Mullin sadly fell down the pecking order in the second half of last season, and Wrexham have decided to let him go.

Wrexham fans on Paul Mullin exit
Mullin has joined Wigan Athletic on loan for the 2025-26 season, departing Wrexham in search of playing time.
Ryan Reynolds has said goodbye to Mullin, while Phil Parkinson believes Wigan have made a great signing.
Wrexham fans have now taken to social media to share their thoughts, with some split opinions on the move.
Some fans believe that Mullin’s legacy will stand the test of time and feel he will be a Wrexham hero forever.
Mullin’s impact leaves some feeling that Wrexham simply would not be in this position without him, making him one of the club’s very best in recent memory.
Others think that Mullin’s exit has been handled ‘poorly’, almost feeling that Mullin has been pushed out in recent months.
Some supporters still believe that Mullin will be back at Wrexham in 2026, possibly even as soon as January.
Those fans feel Mullin will get himself back into goalscoring form and work his way into Wrexham’s plans once more, maintaining hope of more Mullin magic.
Here are some of the reactions from Wrexham fans on social media as Mullin heads to Wigan Athletic…
- Pity it wasn’t for 6 months just to get his eye for goal back in. You watch, knowing Mulls, he’ll get 30+ and we’ll be struggling to score goals with no option of bringing him back ‘home’…
- His legacy is intact. His face is already on the murals. His goals already on the records. Hope he comes back in no more than a year and gets to play with and for Wrexham in the PL, or at least in the Championship.
- Not many players I can say I’ve watched are Wrexham legends. He certainly is. Wouldn’t be where we are without him
- Doesn’t feel right to see you in another shirt @PMullin7. What an absolute servant you’ve been. Hoping this is not the end of your story in North Wales. Wigan have got themselves a king.
- I can’t help but feel this has been handled poorly. Yes he wasn’t at his best last season, but injuries didn’t help that. I would have loved to have seen him given a go in the Championship. I refuse to believe he offers less than some of the strikers still at the club. Legend
- This one hurts, will be strange not seeing him in a Wrexham shirt now, but go smash the goals in & show everyone what you’ve (still) got Mulls! No matter what happens this season & beyond, will always be a Wrexham legend
- Hope he scores 10 goals by January and gets recalled from his loan to lead us to promotion! A real stretch, BUT THERE’S ALWAYS HOPE!! Will be praying for a great year for Wrexham legend, SPM!!
- I can’t see many being happy about this … People go on about Mullins age or his lack of Goals last season but we are playing Rodriguez and he wasn’t given a proper chance last season. I really hope to see him back in a Wrexham top and he gets his chance to prove himself
- Saw this coming, but it will be very difficult to accept it. Thank you @PMullin7 for changing the club’s history and the life of many Wrexham fans, and good luck.
- My favourite ever Wrexham player, gave us the most enjoyable times as a fan. Absolutely gutted about this, would love to have seen him had a pre season injury free and given a go in some capacity!
- Bang in a load of goals @PMullin7 and then come home in January! The Red Army will be cheering you on every step of the way
- Hopefully this is just a temporary thing and he still has a part to play in the future of the club. Either way, he’s a Wrexham legend in my eyes. Diolch yn fawr @PMullin7 a pob lwc
Paul Mullin returning to Wrexham looks unlikely
We would love to buy into the idea of Mullin finding form at Wigan, coming back to Wrexham in 2026 and writing a new chapter in his legacy.
Sadly, it just doesn’t seem likely.
Parkinson wasn’t even selecting Mullin on the bench in the second half of last season, even preferring Modou Faal over him at one point.
Wrexham’s progress continues and there will be no plans to simply stop at reaching the Championship; Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds will want Premier League football at some point.
As Wrexham continue to push for the top, the standards increase and some popular players end up being let go.
That is just the nature of the game and while Mullin’s move is only a loan, he will most likely leave Wrexham on a permanent basis in 2026.
