Wrexham fans are saying an emotional goodbye to Paul Mullin after the striker completed a move to Wigan Athletic.

Deep down, Wrexham supporters knew this day was coming.

Paul Mullin has become a hero since joining Wrexham from Cambridge United back in 2021.

The 30-year-old dropped down two divisions in order to join Wrexham on a free transfer, with Rob McElhenney convincing Mullin to make the move.

That decision paid off, with Mullin smashing 110 goals in a Wrexham shirt and becoming a global favourite with his goalscoring exploits.

Mullin sadly fell down the pecking order in the second half of last season, and Wrexham have decided to let him go.

Wrexham fans on Paul Mullin exit

Mullin has joined Wigan Athletic on loan for the 2025-26 season, departing Wrexham in search of playing time.

Ryan Reynolds has said goodbye to Mullin, while Phil Parkinson believes Wigan have made a great signing.

Wrexham fans have now taken to social media to share their thoughts, with some split opinions on the move.

Some fans believe that Mullin’s legacy will stand the test of time and feel he will be a Wrexham hero forever.

Mullin’s impact leaves some feeling that Wrexham simply would not be in this position without him, making him one of the club’s very best in recent memory.

Others think that Mullin’s exit has been handled ‘poorly’, almost feeling that Mullin has been pushed out in recent months.

Some supporters still believe that Mullin will be back at Wrexham in 2026, possibly even as soon as January.

Those fans feel Mullin will get himself back into goalscoring form and work his way into Wrexham’s plans once more, maintaining hope of more Mullin magic.

Here are some of the reactions from Wrexham fans on social media as Mullin heads to Wigan Athletic…

Paul Mullin returning to Wrexham looks unlikely

We would love to buy into the idea of Mullin finding form at Wigan, coming back to Wrexham in 2026 and writing a new chapter in his legacy.

Sadly, it just doesn’t seem likely.

Parkinson wasn’t even selecting Mullin on the bench in the second half of last season, even preferring Modou Faal over him at one point.

Wrexham’s progress continues and there will be no plans to simply stop at reaching the Championship; Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds will want Premier League football at some point.

As Wrexham continue to push for the top, the standards increase and some popular players end up being let go.

That is just the nature of the game and while Mullin’s move is only a loan, he will most likely leave Wrexham on a permanent basis in 2026.
