Wrexham fans now want a former player to return to their club following his release.

Wrexham released eight players this month, saying goodbye to some huge names.

Ryan Reynolds sent messages to Steven Fletcher and Mark Howard as their time at the club draws to an end.

Howard has been with the Red Dragons since the National League, and Fletcher’s goals were so key to their latest promotion.

But as the club’s historic rise continues, fans saying goodbye to important players is becoming more and more common.

We saw this in 2024, when the likes of Ben Tozer were released after previously being very important.

Wrexham fans want Ben Tozer to return

Tozer moved to Forest Green Rovers last year, trying to help the club escape the National League in 2024/25.

12 months on, the defender has been released by Forest Green and has since announced his retirement.

Following the news, Wrexham fans have taken to social media and called for Tozer to return to the Racecourse Ground.

One fan wrote: “A really nice guy, who helped this club on its way out of the National League. We won’t forget Ben. Come back and be some part of the Wrexham AFC family.”

A second replied: “Excellence! Hope to see you back at Wrexham soon!” And a third added: “Bring him back Wrexham. He’d be ace on the coaching staff.

“What a guy! One of my Favs! Good Luck with whatever you do in the future. But, I’m sure we may see you on the bench for Wrexham,” a fourth stated.

Another supporter simply wrote: “The next Wrexham manager.”

A sixth Wrexham fan added: “A true professional, good luck Ben, hopefully we will see you back at Wrexham in some capacity.”

And a seventh demanded: “Get him in the coaching team! Great mentality and leadership.”

How Ben Tozer fared after Wrexham exit

Despite turning 35 earlier this year, Tozer was still playing regular football during the most recent season.

He featured 29 times in the National League and captained Forest Green on numerous occasions as they vied for promotion.

They ended up finishing inside the play-off places and much like Wrexham in 2021/22, suffered defeat.

Forest Green were beaten by Southend United in the play-off semi-finals and will remain in the fifth tier for another year.
