Wrexham legend Paul Mullin has already made an everlasting impression at his new club, Wigan Athletic.

Ahead of the 2025/26 Championship campaign, it looked likely that several players who weren’t part of Phil Parkinson’s plans would move on to pastures new.

One player who was destined for a move was Wrexham star Paul Mullin, whose game time was severely hampered last season due to injury and the bloated attacking options that Parkinson had at his disposal.

Mullin has since left Wrexham to join Wigan Athletic in a loan move, where he will hope to prove himself at League One level before returning to the Racecourse Ground, with the Red Dragons hopefully remaining in the Championship.

Despite not having notched a single game yet for the Latics, Mullin has already made an impact at Wigan Athletic, with boss Ryan Lowe being left in awe of the Wrexham loanee.

What Paul Mullin has already shown in his loan from Wrexham

At Wrexham, since he arrived as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s blockbuster signing in the National League, Mullin has always been a leader in the dressing room, and a figure to look up to for the younger, or less experienced players within the ranks.

That has been no different since Mullin joined Wigan Athletic, with the Liverpudlian proving to be a leader for the Latics, even though they are yet to play a single game.

One man who has noticed the impact of Mullin’s arrival is Wigan boss Ryan Lowe, who, per Wigan Today, discussed how they signed him and how a fellow player was excited for him to arrive at the club.

“I spoke to Dara [Costelloe] on the phone, when we were discussing his deal, and he actually asked about Paul.

“He mentioned there’d been a lot of talk that Paul would be coming here, and I told him ‘yes’ straight away.

“I told him Paul was in doing his medical as we speak, and I was never anything but honest with him.”

Lowe also spoke about what Mullin has already shown at the club, having said: “One of the attributes Paul would bring, as well as on the pitch, is off the pitch as a leader, and he’s showed that already.

“To have won all those promotions in recent years, it has to give you something you can pass on to younger players like Dara.

“Paul is 30 years of age but he looks like a 21-year-old in terms of his body and his condition.

“And he’s definitely got a big part to play on and off the pitch.”

Paul Mullin is already on the way to making his Wrexham comeback more likely

Paul Mullin will be glad that his move to Wigan Athletic is only a temporary one, with it being clear that his ambitions lie with getting back into the forefront of Phil Parkinson’s plans at Wrexham.

Ultimately, Mullin needs to prove that he is above League One level in this loan spell, and whilst he is yet to play a game, he seems to already be doing one thing right.

The Wrexham legend needed to make sure that his mentality was spot on going into a new environment in order to potentially chase his dream. It is clear that he wants to be back into the fold at Wrexham, and this spell at Wigan will prove to be a blank canvas for him to show his true ability.
