Wrexham flop once trained with Premier League elite, now he’s been snubbed by Phil Parkinson twice

One Wrexham player may now go the rest of the 2024/25 season without playing a single game under Phil Parkinson.

Wrexham had a very productive January transfer window, which included smashing their transfer record.

Ryan Longman arrived for £500,00 and has already notched a staggering three assists in 102 minutes of football for Wrexham.

The wing-back was followed through the door a week later when Sam Smith joined in a record deal from Reading and Jay Rodriguez was signed from Championship promotion contenders, Burnley.

All three look like real statement signings from Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds as they aim to make it out of the third tier and into the Championship for the first time since it was rebranded.

However, it did leave the Hollywood-owned club with a rather inflated squad for the second half of 2024/25.

Phil Parkinson sNubs Josh Adam as Wrexham League One squad confirmed

When the campaign began, Wrexham opted to leave Anthony Forde out of their 22-man League One squad.

Further exits, arrivals, and the three additions over the winter meant that the Red Dragons would have been one over the limit if they kept the same stars who Phil Parkinson selected in the summer.

However, Wrexham’s 22-man squad for the remainder of 2024/25 was announced on Friday and two players have been cut.

Luke Bolton and Will Boyle were both axed, while Longman, Smith, Rodriguez, and Matty James (signed in October) were the new names on the list.

Wrexham still have room to add one more player to the team but yet again, there was no room for Josh Adam who joined in September 2024 but was not added to the squad despite there being room at the time.

Josh Adam trained with Erling Haaland and Phil Foden

Adam began his playing career with Celtic before moving to Manchester City in 2020.

He made 42 appearances at U21 level and though he never notched a senior outing for the Premier League champions, he did train with the first team.

Man City’s official website posted training photos last year, in which Adam was spotted alongside the likes of Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, and fellow gem, Rico Lewis.

Lewis and Adam’s careers have taken a very different path since then, however, as the former has cemented himself as a regular feature under Pep Guardiola, while the Wrexham man can’t even get a game in League One.

He’s played just 147 minutes in the EFL Trophy and now that competition is heating up and the midfielder is not included in the league squad once more, Adam probably won’t see any playing time under Parky again this term.

His addition probably excited Wrexham fans at the time given where he was coming from, but it’s proven to be something of a flop so far.
