Wrexham are set to smash their club record fee once again as they close in on the signing of Sam Smith from Reading.
It will be the eighth time owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have broken Wrexham’s transfer record since they took over the club.
Wrexham are set to sign Sam Smith in a ‘multi-million pound’ deal in order to bolster Phil Parkinson’s attacking ranks ahead of the push for League One promotion.
Upon Smith’s arrival, it will be interesting to see if the club can add any more firepower to their squad as they bid to close a six point gap on promotion rivals Wycombe Wanderers. Wrexham will need to ensure that money is spent wisely however.

Wrexham’s five record signings
As the club-record is about to be broken yet again, we look back at some of Wrexham’s other record arrivals, all have had differing success during their time at the Racecourse Ground.
Ollie Palmer
Ollie Palmer has been a revelation for Wrexham having signed for around £310k from Wimbledon back in January 2022. The 33-year-old striker has scored 42 goals in 148 appearances for the club and has been an integral part of their rise through the divisions.
Wrexham were unbeaten at home for three years with Palmer and Mullin in the side, a club record and whilst his time in the starting eleven may be coming to an end, there can be no doubt that the striker was money well spent.

Sebastien Revan
Signed from Aston Villa in the summer of 2024 for around £350k, Sebastien Revan has endured an inconsistent start to his Wrexham career.
The left back has made 20 appearances in all competitions this season but has mainly been used from the bench. At 21, Revan still has plenty of time to make a name for himself in North Wales and can learn a lot from club captain James McClean in his position.
Ollie Rathbone
Ollie Rathbone was signed from League One rivals Rotherham United in the summer of 2024 and has been exceptional in his first season at the Red Dragons. The midfielder has scored three times in 23 appearances in the league and brings an energy and enthusiasm to the team.
He scored recently against Birmingham City and George Dobson raved about Rathbone’s performance against the division’s leaders and how he applies himself in training. So far, money definitely well spent.

Ryan Longman
Wrexham confirmed the signing of Ryan Longman from Hull City for a fee of around £490k during the current January transfer window in order to provide Parkinson with some pace and energy to his wide options.
Parkinson praised Longman’s debut during the defeat to Stevenage and hinted that he could possibly make his full debut in the upcoming match away at Crawley Town.
Modou Faal
Modou Faal was signed in the summer of 2024 for a club-record £580k from Championship side West Brom. It hasn’t gone to plan for Faal so far this season having played just 56 minutes of League One action.
Wrexham fans have not been impressed with Faal during his appearances in the EFL Trophy and the striker could be set to leave the club following Smith’s arrival. Faal has not been named in the matchday squad for the last two games.
There is hope however, that Faal is a long-term project and will soon adjust to life at the Racecourse Ground.
