Paul Mullin must be delighted after Phil Parkinson comments, Wrexham fans will be thrilled

Paul Mullin has endured a tough 2024/25 but recent comments from Phil Parkinson should please him.

Paul Mullin has been one of the most influential players in the club’s history, with his 100+ goals firing Wrexham out of the National League and all the way up to League One.

Upon their arrival in the third tier, however, the striker was sidelined with an injury and has been unable to recapture his top form since returning.

Mullin has struggled in League One and so far, has found the net on just three occasions in 2024/25.

With the 30-year-old failing to deliver on a regular basis, Phil Parkinson opted to bring in two new centre-forwards during the 2025 January transfer window.

After their arrivals, Mullin had transfer interest but remained in Wales beyond deadline day.

Despite staying, the Englishman now faces very heavy competition to earn regular minutes at Wrexham.

Phil Parkinson comments are good news for Paul Mullin

Only time will tell, but it does look as though new signings Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez, who started the win over Crawley Town, are the Red Dragons’ main striking duo.

Behind them, with both starting on the bench over the weekend, Jack Marriott and Steve Fletcher look to be the backup pairing.

There is then Ollie Palmer, Mullin, and Modou Faaal, the latter of which scored and assisted in midweek.

In turn, given his form, it seemed unlikely we would see much of the club’s record goalscorer for the remainder of the season.

However, as per Leader Live, Parkinson spoke about his squad and claimed that ‘everyone’s going to be utilised’.

“We said in the dressing room to the lads about how we’ve always been about the squad and the group, typified by all the lads who weren’t in the team and their reaction.

“The lads in the dressing room and all the lads who didn’t make the bench like George Evans and Jacob Mendy were right with us and that’s what we’ve always been about.

“We can’t reiterate that more than anything. We’ve got a lot of games left and everyone’s going to be utilised.”

This should be music to the ears of Mullin and fans, who no doubt don’t want to see a club legend cast aside so soon.

Wrexham legend on Paul Mullin contract

Given the centre-forward is under contract until 2027, it makes sense for Parkinson to continue playing him in the second half of 2024/25.

Wrexham fans were desperate for Mullin to stay after being linked with a potential move away over the winter.

And while they’ve got their wish for the time being, his future could still be away from the Racecourse.

Andy Morell commented on Mullin and Palmer’s contracts recently, the latter of which was only signed this season.

While some may believe it was unwise to hand new deals to players who have fallen down the pecking order, Morell suggested it’s a statement from the club and could help them secure more funds in the future.

He said: “I think they were good news stories, they were key players for the last two seasons, and it’s a statement that no one is coming for our top men and we’ll keep them as long as we want. They’re happy. The longer deals show that players can be kept.

“If you find yourself in a situation like Palmer, where he’s now maybe fifth or sixth choice, he still has value now if someone wants to buy him.

“Wrexham will be able to get some kind of fee for him now because of that contract if he does leave in the summer.”
