Wrexham fans are gearing up for the club’s first home game in the Championship since 1982.

Phil Parkinson’s side head into the clash with West Brom at the Racecourse Ground in high spirits after a dramatic late comeback against Hull City in the EFL Cup.

Morale has also been boosted as Wrexham confirmed record signing Nathan Broadhead has joined the club in a deal worth up to £10.5m.

Owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are certainly keeping their word and showing ambition in the Championship, however, the club needs significant improvement in one area compared to their rivals.

Wrexham yet to receive a penny in player sales this summer

Wrexham’s model for success so far under the ownership of Reynolds and McElhenney has very much been geared towards the short-term goals.

Signing players such as James McClean and Steven Fletcher has been huge in earning three successive promotions, however, those players do not carry any sell-on value at the end of their time with the club.

As per Transfermarkt, Wrexham are yet to receive a penny in player sales this summer, despite the departures of first-team stars such as Paul Mullin and Will Boyle.

Mullin joined Wigan on loan, whilst Boyle was reportedly allowed to leave the club on a free transfer. Sebastian Revan has also secured a loan move away from North Wales by joining Burton Albion.

In order to keep the club progressing and ensure its sustainability, Wrexham must improve in that area by ensuring they receive proper value for money when selling players.

Parkinson has some tough choices coming up as he has to name a 25-man squad and there will be some players that need to leave the club this summer.

Wrexham’s Championship rivals Ipswich Town set to recoup £78m in this transfer window

Wrexham will of course be looking to keep hold of their biggest assets as they look to reach the Premier League, Reynolds and McElhenney would refuse to sell Max Cleworth if a big offer came in.

However, Championship rivals Ipswich Town are set to recoup £78m in this transfer window after Nottingham Forest agreed a £37.5m deal to sign winger Omari Hutchison.

The Red Dragons will have a number of players ready to depart in the coming weeks that they can receive a transfer fee for and help to balance the books from their considerable outlay.

Ollie Palmer has been told to leave by Parkinson and has been linked with a return to AFC Wimbledon, whilst Elliot Lee is another name that could be out of favour.

As Wrexham do continue to progress up the footballing pyramid, PSR rules are something they need to be mindful of and receiving appropriate transfer fees for their players will help them stay on the right side of the line.
