Wrexham were back to winning ways on Thursday, seeing off Blackpool by two goals to one.
Wrexham have floundered somewhat in December, conceding late equalisers to draw with Bristol Rovers and Cambridge United.
This has seen the Red Dragons’ promotion hopes dented somewhat, dropping out of the top two and needing to make up ground on fellow high-flyers Birmingham City and Wycombe Wanderers.
Both of those teams won on Boxing Day, but Wrexham also came away with a much-needed 2-1 victory.
Ashley Fletcher put Blackpool in front after just three minutes before goals from Paul Mullin and Steven Fletcher helped the home outfit earn the three points.
Wrexham fans praised Mullin for his display during the 90 minutes and rightly so after his wonder strike.
However, there was another player who really stood out against Blackpool and has now received much-needed credit from club legend, Andy Morrell.

Andy Morrell praises Eoghan O’Connell after Wrexham vs Blackpool
One of the main reasons Wrexham are still competing at the top end of League One this season is their superb defensive record.
And no star has played a bigger role in that than experienced centre-back, Eoghan O’Connell.
The likes of Ryan Barnett, Elliot Lee and George Dobson have excelled in 2024/25, while Mullin was excellent against Blackpool.
However, when taking to X/Twitter after the meeting on Boxing Day, Morrell was quick to show love for O’Connell, labelling the stopper as ‘immense’.
He wrote: “Fantastic win today. Second half in particular played with much more intensity. Terrrific for @PMullin7 what a goal, but O’Connell was immense. Sets us up nicely for Sunday.”
Eoghan O’Connell stats for Wrexham vs Blackpool
O’Connell joined Wrexham from Charlton Athletic in January 2023 for an undisclosed fee.
While not talked about too often, the 29-year-old has proven himself to be an excellent addition at the Racecourse Ground.
The Douglas-born star was crucial to the Red Dragons winning promotion in 2023/24 and has been superb once again this term.
O’Connell’s stats for Wrexham vs Blackpool are seriously impressive, with the centre-back especially dominate in the air.
Dan Scarr is struggling to break into the team after arriving over the summer but his wait for a regular starting berth will likely continue as long as O’Connell continues to play the way he is right now.
