Wrexham loanee suffers cruel injury setback as Phil Parkinson’s contract decision looms

Wrexham were hoping to see Jordan Davies kick on with a loan move to Grimsby Town but he has now suffered another blow.

Wrexham had to make some difficult decisions after winning promotion to League One.

Ben Tozer was released whilst Rob McElhenney’s favourite player Luke Young was let go at the end of his contract too.

This Wrexham rise shows no sign of slowing down and not everybody can continue on the journey.

Wrexham said goodbye to Jordan Davies too, albeit only on loan as he joined League Two side Grimsby Town.

The Wrexham-born midfielder played a key role in Wrexham’s National League success but found himself on the fringes last season.

Grimsby Town boss confirms Jordan Davies blow

With first-team opportunities dwindling as Wrexham continued to rise, Davies headed off to Grimsby for first-team action.

The season started in style as Davies scored twice in a 3-2 win over Cheltenham Town.

Sadly, Davies picked up a hamstring injury in August and didn’t return until November.

After returning from injury, Grimsby fans wanted Davies signed permanently as he scored against Accrington Stanley.

Davies has missed Grimsby’s last two games though and the injury woes are back once again.

Mariners boss David Artell has told BBC Radio Humberside that Davies has suffered another hamstring problem.

Artell believes that Davies will now be out for another four to six weeks, meaning we may not see him in action again until March.

That is a huge blow for Davies, who seems to pick up momentum at Grimsby but then pick up another injury.

Wrexham fans everywhere will hope to see Davies back fit and firing again soon as Artell and his band of former Wrexham players aim for the League Two playoffs.

Wrexham’s clear Jordan Davies decision will hurt

There is nothing we would love more than to see Davies thriving in this Wrexham side.

A hometown talent who returned to the club after spending time at Brighton and Hove Albion, Davies holds Wrexham so close to his heart.

The 21-goal campaign during the 2021-22 season will not be forgotten with Davies showing his quality back then.

A culmination of factors now mean that Davies is likely coming to the end of his Wrexham career.

Injuries, competition for places and Wrexham’s relentless push for the top means Davies is, sadly, likely to be left behind.

Davies will see his contract expire this summer and, having picked up another injury, we can’t see Wrexham offering him a new deal.

Letting Davies go permanently will hurt but it’s a decision Wrexham may well need to make come the end of the season.
