Wrexham player named as ‘biggest disappointment of the season’ by journalist, future hope expressed

Wrexham have had a fantastic 2024/25 season, but one player has been backed for a brighter future following a disappointing campaign.

Wrexham won promotion to the Championship on April 26 before ending their season with a record high 92 points.

As expected, a number of the club’s players thrived over the course of the 2024/25 campaign.

Max Cleworth scooped two prizes when the end-of-season awards took place last weekend.

Ollie Rathbone won Player of the Season after he enjoyed a prolific debut campaign in Wales following his summer switch.

However, there is one player who left a journalist disappointed with his performances over the last year.

Sebastian Revan named as Wrexham’s ‘biggest disappointment’

Sebastian Revan joined Wrexham in the 2024 summer transfer window, signing from Aston Villa.

Revan shone against Bolton Wanderers in the early stages of the season, but his form has been mixed since that outing.

He has struggled to earn regular minutes, with James McClean and, in more recent times, Ryan Longman getting the nod ahead of him at left-wing-back.

Now, speaking on the Rob.Ryan.Red podcast this week, journalist Nathan Salt has been discussing Wrexham’s biggest disappointment of the season, naming Revan.

However, he did express hope that the defender will improve in the future if he’s still involved.

He said: “I guess on the balance of fairness, and hopefully if they do hear this, it’ll be a bit of motivation going into next season. I think probably my biggest disappointment of the season was Seb Revan.

“Just because I was really excited to see him. Genuine pace out wide, young player, thought he was really good at Bolton away, and it’s partly because McLean’s been so solid, but I really hope that going into next season Revan, if he’s still involved and still in the mix, can really take that next step

“Because he arrived as that Young Player of the Year from Rotherham. You’re talking about bedding in period. It’s not easy when you’re behind the captain in the team, captain’s going to play most weeks anyway.

“I just hope that we might look back on the season ago, alright, that was Revan just learning and kind of gathering some intel in Parky system and learning under McLean.

“But yeah, I think that was one of the biggest sort of disappointments, so I’m really looking forward for him to take that next step next season.”

Wrexham may need to loan Sebastian Revan

With Wrexham now in the Championship, the level required to play regularly has increased.

As a result, loaning the defender out in 2025/26, perhaps to a League One side, may be best for all parties.

McClean will likely keep his starting berth on the left, given his vast experience and the fact that he is Wrexham’s captain.

Longman is another player already comfortable in the Championship, having moved from Hull City in January, and he has impressed during his brief time with Wrexham so far.

This means it would probably be another season with Revan acting as the third-choice option, which may not be ideal for his development.
