Wrexham are used to having a sprinkle of Hollywood star dust around the club.
Owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have introduced a number of high-profile celebrities to the Racecourse Ground in the last few seasons, including the likes of Hugh Jackman and Eva Longoria.
Channing Tatum starred in a Wrexham advert alongside the likes of Steven Fletcher and Ollie Rathbone and the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary series has seen the club’s fanbase grow to record highs.
However, it was a phone call from music legend Elton John that really took Reynolds by ‘surprise’ and he has now revealed the reason behind the call was all down to one Wrexham player.

Ryan Reynolds reveals Wrexham reason behind Elton John contact
Speaking on the latest episode of the Rob.Ryan.Red podcast, Reynolds has revealed that he once received a phone call from Elton John after Wrexham’s 3-2 victory over Notts County in the National League back in April 2023.
Ben Foster was the hero that day after he saved a last minute penalty to preserve the Red Dragons’ lead and John was quick to call the owner after the game.
Reynolds revealed: “That was the biggest surprise phone call I ever got was Elton John after the Ben Foster save against Notts County and that moment,
“I don’t pick up numbers I don’t recognise but I must have had some sense that this means something because it was also like a certain area code.”
Foster spent a number of seasons at Watford during his career, a club that John has supported all his life and once owned.
Reynolds also proved the growing popularity of the club by claiming: “Sir Elton was very into the Wrexham experience.”
Ryan Reynolds described Ben Foster’s save as his ‘greatest’ Wrexham moment
That penalty save from Foster proved to be the pivotal moment in a monstrous tussle between Wrexham and Notts County back in 2023 when both clubs were vying for National League promotion.
Reynolds lauded Foster’s save by once describing it as ‘the greatest moment’ in his life as Cedwyn Scott’s penalty was tipped round the post.
The former England goalkeeper retired not long into the club’s League Two Campaign and Parkinson understood Foster’s decision.
His impact on Wrexham for the few months he was with the club is remembered fondly and he forever has a place in the club’s history with that historic save.
