Wrexham striker Kieffer Moore bagged his first goals for the club in Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Sheffield Wednesday.

Wrexham suffered disappointment on Saturday, squandering a 2-0 lead against beleaguered Sheffield Wednesday.

Kieffer Moore scored twice in the first half, only for Barry Bannan and Bailey Cadamarteri to haul the Owls back into the game after the break.

Wednesday even came close to winning it late on, but Danny Ward produced a big save to deny Charlie McNeill and secure a 2-2 draw for Wrexham.

This was a major learning experience for Wrexham, and Phil Parkinson will hopefully get to the bottom of Wrexham’s second-half issues.

Wrexham have lost the second halves of games with a combined score of 6-1 this season, which is something Parkinson must address as Wrexham settle into Championship life.

Wrexham striker Kieffer Moore leads the Championship in one key area

The one major positive from Saturday’s draw was the performance of centre-forward Moore.

Wrexham signed Moore from Sheffield United over the summer, with the giant striker brought in as Parkinson’s new target man.

Moore was outstanding against Southampton on the opening day, before battling back from injury to face West Bromwich Albion.

The Welshman is now off the mark in front of goal, and fans will expect plenty more goals from Moore moving forward.

Moore’s physicality is clear, and Opta Joe now notes that nobody in the Championship has won more duels than Moore this season.

The Wrexham striker has won 35 duels this season, proving to be an absolute menace in physical battles.

Moore is an enormous player at 6ft 5in tall, and his sheer size means defenders are always in a real fight.

It’s one thing to have the size, but any great target man must also have the mentality to battle away with centre-backs game after game, week after week.

Moore is showing the quality and the mentality to play that role, and Parkinson has praised Moore for his Wrexham impact so far, clearly delighted with the battling qualities in the final third.

Parkinson loves to deploy a target man, with Wrexham often attacking through crosses and direct balls into the strikers.

Ollie Palmer was Wrexham’s leading target man after his 2022 arrival from AFC Wimbledon, playing key roles in promotion from the National League and League Two.

Palmer even made an impact in the first half of last season, before falling down the Wrexham pecking order.

Palmer has now been told to leave Wrexham, with Parkinson ready to move on without him.

Moore is now taking over the target man role at Wrexham, and his physical prowess in his first three games suggests that he will be a perfect replacement.

It’s difficult to see a player like Palmer being ushered out of the club, but Wrexham are looking for continuous improvement with established Championship stars like Moore now arriving to play big roles.
