Wrexham are preparing for pre-season action as Phil Parkinson gears up to face A-League side Melbourne Victory on Friday.

Wrexham players jetted out to Australia on Sunday ahead of three pre-season games in Australia and New Zealand.

Phil Parkinson’s squad have been acclimatising to life Down Under this week with three tests to come.

Wrexham’s pre-season tour starts against Melbourne Victory on Friday before heading over to Sydney FC next week.

The Red Dragons then travel to New Zealand to face Wellington Phoenix before returning home.

Wrexham players have been put through their paces ahead of Friday’s game, with photos emerging from the training base at La Trobe Fields in Melbourne.

Danny Ward in action

Goalkeeper Danny Ward joined Wrexham last week, finalising a free transfer return to the STōK Cae Ras.

A former Wrexham youth product, Ward is now back as competition for Arthur Okonkwo and Callum Burton.

Ward was seen in training on Wednesday, diving to make a save as he looks to catch Parkinson’s eye.

The Welsh international may have arrived as depth between the sticks, but he will push for any chance to impress, especially early into his second stint at Wrexham.

Ward is not the only new signing currently in Australia with Wrexham, as Ryan Hardie is also involved.

Wrexham signed Hardie from Plymouth Argyle in June, bringing the Scottish striker to the STōK Cae Ras thanks to a relegation release clause.

Hardie was seen in training alongside youngster Harry Ashfield, with both players looking to make an impression.

Hardie would love to start the season in the Wrexham starting XI, while Ashfield is pushing for more senior action after promising moments last season.

Ollie Palmer seeks Wrexham chance

Striker Ollie Palmer was named in the Wrexham squad, providing some hope that the striker may still have a future at the club.

Palmer has slipped down the Wrexham pecking order, and many expected him to move on this summer.

Paul Mullin has moved to Wigan Athletic after finding himself in a similar position, but Palmer is still at Wrexham – and in the squad in Australia.

Palmer was seen training alongside George Dobson and would no doubt love the chance to shine against Melbourne Victory on Friday.

Jacob Mendy put through his paces

We also saw Jacob Mendy in action, with the left wing-back keen for an opportunity this summer.

Last season was a tricky one for Mendy, as he played just 93 minutes of League One action across four substitute appearances.

Wrexham are interested in Empoli’s Liberato Cacace and appear to be looking for a new left wing-back this summer.

Mendy is still with Wrexham, though, and will hope to use pre-season to show that Parkinson doesn’t need to spend on another player in his position.
