While Wrexham’s focus will largely be on the upcoming game against Reading on Tuesday night, the Red Dragons’ next game, against Wycombe Wanderers, will be in the back of everyone’s minds.
After this weekend’s results, with Wrexham grabbing a win against Rotherham, and Wycombe dropping points against Peterborough, the two promotion rivals are level on 68 points with 11 games to go.
Phil Parkinson will now be concerned with getting the right Wrexham lineup for the Reading game this week. A win there will put the Red Dragons above Wycombe going into this weekend’s big six-pointer.
It’ll be a tense affair regardless, but it seems the nerves are getting to Wycombe fans already, and they’re throwing big statements around on social media ahead of the game.

Wycombe Wanderers fans are starting to doubt Mike Dodds already
Wycombe boss Mike Dodds is feeling ‘really confident’ ahead of the game on Saturday, but that is not a sentiment shared by Chairboys’ fans right now.
After seeing Wycombe stumble to a draw against Peterborough this weekend, fans took to Twitter/X to share their concerns over the direction Dodds is taking the team.
One said: “I’m not losing patience with Dodds yet, but I do struggle with some of his decision making, especially with the squad.”
Another added: “Only criticism I have with Dodds is his squad selection, tactically he is improving nearly every week, today I can admit was poor overall but I feel that’s more on the players than the manager… of course people can just say ‘choose other players’ But Dodds won’t come in and change nearly the whole starting 11 and drop the people who got us to this position.”
There is a caveat here, then, in that some supporters believe Dodds is trying to maintain a good balance of harmony within the squad.
One supporter said: “He’s inherited a big talented squad that looks impossible to please everyone. Probably wants to be loyal to the players that got us where we are but talent like Lowry, Westergaard, Berry not making squads when performing well could really bite us short and long term.”
Others were far less forgiving, though. It seems one of the big problems is down to Dodds’ substitutions throughout the game and the timing of them.
“It felt like he didn’t really have a clue what to do today… was just throwing on forward players in any position in the hope one of them getting a goal… was quite hostile towards him and the team performance in the away end today,” one wrote.
“The issue I have mainly is the slowness in making subs. Making your first sub around 75 minutes is too late. Bring on fresh legs and give them enough time to impact the game,” another added.
Are the wheels starting to come off for Wycombe already? It certainly feels that way, and this could be the worst possible time for a crisis of confidence for the Chairboys.
Wrexham are surely in the driving seat for promotion race now
You can really sense that the Wrexham squad, the staff, and the fans believe this is in their hands now. And, given what we’ve seen the Red Dragons achieve already in the last two seasons, they’re right to be confident.
We know how driven Parkinson and his players are. They love defying the odds. They love it when people doubt them. And now that they’re back in the swing of things, they will be determined to get across the line and go up, making history in the process with a third successive promotion.
