71-goal man must be gutted he didn’t join Wrexham this summer after 85 days without a club

Wrexham had a very successful 2025 summer transfer window but did not sign one player who was open to moving.

As expected, Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac were not shy about backing Wrexham during the latest window.

Club records were smashed on multiple occasions, and when all was said and done, £33m was spent on 13 players inside the window.

One area the club are now looking especially strong in is their midfield department.

Wrexham paid £6.5m for Ben Sheaf, signed Lewis O’Brien from Nottingham Forest, and landed Bolton Wanderers’ former captain George Thomason.

Away from said trio, a transfer approach for Christian Eriksen was made to no avail, while another star was open to moving, but a deal did not get done.

Tom Lawrence still without club after Wrexham interest

Rangers confirmed on May 20, 2025, that Tom Lawrence was among the players leaving their club at the expiration of their contracts on June 30.

Given he has ties to the area and is a Welsh international, it wasn’t surprising that the midfielder was open to a move.

It emerged in early July that Lawrence was tempted to sign for Wrexham over the summer.

He also had admirers in the Middle East and from Turkey, but the Racecourse Ground was thought to be appealing to him.

Throughout his career, the former Manchester United man has scored 71 goals and assisted 54 in all competitions.

Lawrence has experience in Europe, netting three in 10 Europa League matches, and would have been a solid addition to Parkinson’s ranks.

However, no move transpired, and as of September 23, 2025, the former Rangers ace is still on the free-agent market.

Tom Lawrence needs to play in World Cup season

He can still secure a free transfer at some point in this campaign, but the longer he isn’t featuring for a club, the less likely he is to be picked by the Wales manager, Craig Bellamy.

Lawrence has 23 caps at international level but has not featured for his country so far this season, being left out of the team during their September fixtures.

With the 2026 World Cup fast approaching, he needs to make a move as soon as possible to stand any chance of featuring.

It does not look set to be at Wrexham, however, as they already have a 24-man squad, and Ollie Rathbone will take the final spot once he has recovered from an injury suffered in pre-season.
