Wrexham are closing in on their first signing of the 2025 January transfer window.
Wrexham were linked Ryan Longman of Hull City on Tuesday afternoon and things look to be advancing quickly on that front.
The Englishman will arrive in a £500,000 deal, making him one of the most expensive signings in the club’s history.
He is not expected to be signed in time to feature against Birmingham City but it has been reported that Longman will undergo his Wrexham medical on Thursday.
There is much debate over how Phil Parkinson will use the player given he is capable of operating as a striker, a winger and a wing-back.
What is clear, though, is that Longman, despite his quality, probably isn’t the answer to Wrexham’s striker woes.

Wrexham need to replace Ollie Palmer
Wrexham fans have grown tired of ‘really poor’ Ollie Palmer this season, with the striker only finding the net on three occasions despite starting all but two of their League One games.
Palmer was dropped out of the matchday squad last time out and Steven Fletcher instead started in his place.
Fletcher is in great form and scored against Shrewsbury Town but it is obvious he is no longer able to perform at his best for 90 minutes.
In turn, it makes sense for Wrexham to target another big centre-forward who can start in Palmer’s place, while Fletcher goes back to his impact role off the bench, which he’s so good at.
One player who would be an excellent replacement for Palmer is Middlesbrough striker Josh Coburn – currently on loan at Millwall.
Reports from Teesside Live this week revealed the London club want to make his signing permanent this month and Boro are open to a sale. But Wrexham should be looking to swoop in and snap up the Englishman in January.

Why Wrexham should sign Josh Coburn
Wrexham have been told to sign a Championship forward this month if they want to win automatic promotion and Coburn would be a great addition.
Currently earning £7,500-a-week as per Capology, the striker has had injury issues during his brief spell at The Den put is still performing.
Coburn has five goals and one assist in the Championship this term – more than Palmer and Paul Mullin have mustered up in League One.
The 22-year-old is a powerful, strong, traditional number nine who would benefit greatly from the service wing-backs Ryan Barnett and James McClean are capable of providing.
