‘Flawless’ Wrexham star may be regretting his decision to join Wrexham – he’s gone from hero to zero

Wrexham are having a superb 2024/25 so far but one player has found minutes very hard to come by.

Wrexham beat Wigan Athletic 2-1 in their most recent outing, seeing them temporarily regain a place in the top two ahead of Wycombe Wanderers.

It’s been a sensational start to life in League One for the Red Dragons, with a number of their summer signings having a big impact.

Phil Parkinson hailed Ollie Rathbone as ‘immense’ with the former Rotherham United man now a key figure in the club’s midfield.

Alongside Rathbone, George Dobsoson has been one of Wrexham’s best signings of the summer after completing a free transfer from Charlton Athletic.

One man who hasn’t fared especially when since completing a move to the Racecourse Ground, however, is Dan Scarr.

Dan Scarr is struggling for playing time at Wrexham

Scarr arrived in Wales after spending the previous season as a key figure in Championship outfit Plymouth Argyle’s backline.

The centre-back had a crucial role in keeping The Greens in a second tier and, given his obvious quality, it seemed likely he would quickly cement himself a a regular starter for Wrexham – much like Dobson and Rathbone.

However, the 30-year-old, despite playing well in his limited outings, has found minutes very hard to come by this campaign.

Parkinson dubbed Scarr ‘flawless’ after a rare start in the EFL Trophy earlier this month, yet he was back on the bench just a few days later in the league.

In fact, the Englishman has now been left on the bench for eight League One fixtures in a row and is surely starting to regret his decision to drop down to the third tier for so little playing time after previously being a star asset in the Championship.

Dan Scarr feelings on Wrexham playing time

Wrexham face Barnsley on January 1st and it’s likely the former Plymouth man will be left out once more.

Lewis Brunt, Max Cleworth and Eoghan O’Connell are all ahead of him in the defensive pecking order right now.

But Parkinson must be wary of angering the defender too much as Scarr’s feelings on his Wrexham playing time are already clear.

Speaking in September, he said: “You are allowed to be frustrated, that is only normal, but it is frustration in a good way that you want to help the team to do well which is the main goal.

“The lads are flying so we want them to keep playing well. The lads did well last season and they have stepped up and done excellent this season so I hope they keep it going.

“We all understand the situation. I will just keep training hard and help the team when I can.

“Push the lads that are playing the best I can and make sure I am ready when called upon.

“That is all I can do. Put myself in the best possible position to be ready.”
