He left Wrexham for free, now he’s outscoring and valued higher than Paul Mullin in 2024/25

Paul Mullin has been the standard setter at Wrexham for several years now, despite his dip in form this season.

Following successful surgery, Paul Mullin missed the start of the 2024/25 League One campaign.

His return to action has seen the Englishman struggle for form somewhat, previously scoring just once in 19 league ties.

However, Wrexham fans praised Mullin earlier this week after he finally scored his first goal in 11 matches during the win over Blackpool.

But the 30-year-old still has just two league goals in 20 matches and this has seen Phil Parkinson’s team lag behind their promotion rivals on the goal front.

Going into the latest round of fixtures, Wrexham are the lowest scorers of the sides currently in the top six.

Their struggles to find the back of the net look set to be addressed in January with the Red Dragons eyeing a new centre-forward.

However, their current issue may have been avoided had the Welsh outfit opted not to let one player leave on a free transfer.

Davis Keillor-Dunn is outscoring Paul Mullin after leaving Wrexham

Davis Keillor-Dunn began his career with Chesterfield before making the move to Scotland in 2017.

He spent time at Falkirk and Ross County before being released by the latter in September 2019.

The now 27-year-old was without a club for several months before Wrexham signed him on a free transfer in January 2020.

However, Keillor-Dunn played just six games during his time at the Racecourse Ground and scored one goal before he was allowed to join Oldham Athletic for free on August 11th, 2020.

The Englishman has since enjoyed stints with Burton Albion and Mansfield Town before joining Barnsley in the most recent transfer window.

Now plying his trade alongside Wrexham in the third tier, Keillor-Dunn has found the net six times in 21 League One matches – four more times than Mullin and as many as Wrexham’s top scorer this term, Elliot Lee.

The Sunderland-born star has eight goals in all competitions and is currently valued at €800k (around £663,000) by Transfermarkt. In comparison, Mullin has a market value of €650k (around £539,000).

Davis Keillor-Dunn could dent Wrexham promotion hopes

Keillor-Dunn’s strikes have helped Barnsley climb up to seventh in the League One table this season.

They are currently sat on 33 points and could move into the play-offs with a win this weekend.

Keillor-Dunn is also expected to face off against his former club next week when Wrexham travel to Yorkshire on January 1st.

Parkinson and co. are lagging behind Wycombe Wanderers and Birmingham City in the race for automatic promotion and a defeat to Barnsley, which is very possible given their away record and the form of Keillor-Dunn’s side, would be a massive blow.
