Former Wrexham hero who Ryan Reynolds loved will return to the Racecourse, he will want revenge

Wrexham are set to face off against Reading in the EFL Cup, where former star Jack Marriott will return to the Racecourse Ground.

Wrexham managed their second Championship win of the season at the weekend, seeing off Norwich City with a brilliant second-half performance.

Following the brilliant victory against the Canaries, Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson will be keen to continue his side’s momentum as they host League One side Reading in the EFL Cup.

A host of changes to Parkinson’s Wrexham side are expected, but the Red Dragons will still field a strong side as they look to book a place in round four of the competition.

If Wrexham can get past the Royals, the prospect of potentially facing a Premier League side awaits, but they will have to weather the storm of a former Red Dragons hero who is currently shining in League One.

Wrexham will face Jack Marriott in Racecourse reunion

Wrexham’s quest to reach the next round of the EFL Cup will be challenging as they face a stern test in Reading, who will likely play former Red Dragons star Jack Marriott up front.

Marriott left Wrexham this summer after it was clear that he would not be part of Phil Parkinson’s plans in the Championship.

Fortunately from Marriott’s point of view, he has been astonishing for Reading after he joined this summer, having scored three goals and notched an assist in four appearances. This includes a goal this weekend against Leyton Orient as he helped his side to a 2-1 win.

After he was let go by Wrexham and Parkinson, there is no doubt that Marriott will be out to seek revenge against his former coach who deemed him surplus to requirements at the Racecourse Ground.

What Ryan Reynolds said about Jack Marriott

Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds, alongside Rob Mac, always takes a shine to Red Dragons players, and with Jack Marriott it was no different.

Reynolds was left gutted when Marriott left Wrexham, which led to the owner penning a message to the striker that read: “Thank you, Jack Marriott, for giving your all to this club and town. Reading has a true gem of a man and player in their midst. A leader on and off the field. I’ll miss him at the Cae Ras.”

At Wrexham, Rob and Ryan ensure that they have distance between the footballing decisions, meaning that they can strike up bonds and friendships with the players and staff.

While Marriott’s time at Wrexham did not end how he would have wanted, as he may have argued that he deserved a stint in the Championship, he will still hopefully receive a positive welcome from the Red Dragons’ supporters on his return to the Racecourse Ground.
