Jack Marriott has left Wrexham, dropping down to League One to sign for Reading on a permanent deal.

Jack Marriott looked set to play a bit-part role at Wrexham this time round. It comes after Wrexham signed a number of attacking players during the summer transfer window including the likes of Josh Windass, Kieffer Moore and club record signing Nathan Broadhead.

Marriott joined Wrexham in 2024 and went on to make 48 appearances with seven goals. With the likes of Ollie Palmer still at the Racecourse, as well as Jay Rodriguez and Sam Smith, Marriott was perhaps a predictable player sale in North Wales ahead of the September 1st transfer deadline.

Jack Marriott hails the Wrexham dressing room after sealing Reading switch

Marriott has signed a three-year contract with Reading, who have paid an undisclosed fee to sign the 30-year-old striker. Experienced in League One, Marriott has a record of 51 goals and 140 appearances in the third tier, and he may well fire the Royals to promotion this season.

Meanwhile, Phil Parkinson at Wrexham will look to at least stabilise in the Championship, and potentially even challenge for a fourth-straight promotion. And speaking in his first interview as a Reading player, Marriott spoke about his experience with Wrexham and his experience of earning promotion last season.

He said when asked what he learned at Wrexham: “The dressing room is more important to your success. If you’ve got a good group of lads, you’ve got every chance. If you’re all pulling in the right direction, then you’ve got a hell of a chance, and the performances on the pitch will come.”

Who will Jack Marriott make his Reading debut against?

Reading have made a poor start to the new season. The Royals sit in 23rd place of the League One table with just two points from their opening five games.

Wrexham, on the other hand, have just one point from their opening three games after drawing 2-2 with Sheffield Wednesday in their last league outing last weekend.

Next up, the Dragons take on Millwall at The Den but they go into the game with momentum after Wrexham came from behind to beat Preston in the Carabao Cup last time out.

Marriott’s Reading are also in action this weekend, and it could be a game against a familiar face with Reading taking on Mo Faal’s loan club Port Vale.

And in September, Reading and Wrexham meet in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
