How many wins Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds can expect from the next five Wrexham fixtures

Wrexham are currently joint-top of the League One table alongside Stockport County.

After securing back-to-back promotions under Phil Parkinson, Wrexham were expected to have finally found their level in League One.

The step up to the third division is much bigger than the one into League Two and doubts over the Red Dragons’ ability to handle it were raised.

However, we are now four games into 2024/25, and Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds could not have asked for a better start.

Wrexham beat Wycombe Wanderers 3-2 on the opening weekend of the season, setting the tone for the rest of August.

After seeing off Wycombe, the Welsh outfit faced a trip to a promotion-chasing Bolton Wanderers and were able to come away with a 0-0 draw.

Wrexham then hammered Reading 3-0 at the Racecourse Ground before picking up a 2-0 win over Peterborough United in their most recent game.

That unbeaten run suggests Parkinson’s side will be among the promotion favourites this season but their next five fixtures could shape their entire campaign.

Wrexham next five fixtures

Despite there being an international break, Wrexham are still in action this weekend, taking on Shrewsbury Town at home on September 7th.

This is followed by an away meeting with big-spending Birmingham City on Monday, September 16th.

After clashing with the Blues, Wrexham take on Crawley Town at home on September 21st before back-to-back away meetings with Leyton Orient and Stevenage Town on September 28th and October 1st.

Which of those games are winnable for Wrexham

If Wrexham want to make history and secure three promotions on the spin, they will need to win the majority of their upcoming games.

Of their next five, Birmingham away is expected to be the toughest test by some distance.

The recently relegated outfit have spent massive money this summer and are currently only behind Wrexham via goal difference.

That fixture could end up being the hardest game of Wrexham’s campaign and while they could snatch a draw like they did at Bolton, it is hard to see Parkinson’s team coming away from that match with three points.

Outside of Birmingham, however, the remaining four of Wrexham’s next five games are all very winnable.

Shrewsbury are 20th in League One ahead of Saturday’s clash, Crawley are 12th but have only scored three in four, Leyton Orient are dead bottom of the division and Stevenage have won just one in four while netting twice.

Should Wrexham end up beating the aforementioned quartet and get a draw against Birmingham, it would massively boost their promotion chances this term.
