Wrexham have been linked with a move for Hull City star Alfie Jones, and after watching him play for the last five years, I can safely say that he would be a major coup for Phil Parkinson.
The Red Dragons’ transfer business has ramped up as the Australian and New Zealand pre-season tour draws closer to its conclusion.
Wrexham preceded the tour by bringing both Ryan Hardie and Danny Ward to the Racecourse Ground, with the pair bringing vast Championship experience to the ranks.
With the tour about to end, Wrexham are set to sign Liberato Cacace, a full-back with vast experience with Empoli in Serie A. He will not be the only addition that will bolster the defence, however, with the Red Dragons keen to sign to sign Alfie Jones from Hull City.
Jones has piqued the interest of Phil Parkinson, with a deal around the region of £3m being discussed. Having watched Hull City, as a former season ticket holder, and Jones, I can reveal that Wrexham are getting an absolute steal.

Alfie Jones is a perfect signing for Wrexham and Phil Parkinson
In 2020, Hull City signed Alfie Jones off the back of a successful loan spell at Gillingham. Joining from Southampton, Jones’ experience was somewhat limited, but it didn’t take him long to become a crucial member of Grant McCann’s squad in League One.
Promotion back to the Championship was recorded instantly by the Tigers, and instantly, Jones was not out of depth in the Championship.
The centre-back has been pivotal for the club in his five years of service. He is also very versatile regarding his style of play – once Liam Rosenior joined Hull and placed further emphasis on playing out from the back, Jones picked it up smoothly.

Where Alfie Jones fits in at Wrexham
Looking at the current Wrexham squad, it would be fair to assume that Phil Parkinson will be keen to further nurture Max Cleworth into becoming a top Championship defender, making him one of the first names on the teamsheet.
In addition to the Wrexham youngster, he would partner up brilliantly with Alfie Jones, a composed yet imposing centre-half with 149 appearances in the Championship.
The 27-year-old could prove to be a fantastic mentor for Cleworth in defence, helping in that transition to Championship football, something that will be crucial for the young star’s development.
Having watched many minutes of Jones in the flesh, I can categorically confirm that £3m would be a bargain for a player of his level. Championship experience and assured quality are being prioritised this summer, and Jones ticks both boxes.
