Wrexham are ramping up their efforts to add to Phil Parkinson’s options as their pre-season tour of Australia enters its final stage.

Having secured the signings of Ryan Hardie and Danny Ward, Wrexham are now looking for further additions with central midfield and defensive options the priority.

Parkinson’s latest injury update highlighted the need for reinforcements with their Championship opener at Southampton drawing ever closer.

Wrexham are set to sign Liberato Cacace from Empoli in a club-record deal but it has now been revealed that a Premier League target is also ‘considering’ a switch to North Wales.

With the club closing on Cacace, the Red Dragons have been given a further boost with the news that Liverpool youngster Owen Beck could be set to join the New Zealand international.

According to Wales Online, Beck is now ‘considering’ a move to the Racecourse Ground with Parkinson intent on strengthening his options ahead of the new campaign.

Liverpool want to send Beck out on loan and it is believed that Wrexham are willing to take the 22-year-old on a temporary deal for the season.

However, Rangers and a number of Premier League teams are eyeing a permanent move for Beck, who impressed for Blackburn Rovers in a loan spell last season.

A player with Championship experience would be another great addition for the Red Dragons and would provide competition and back-up for skipper James McClean on the left flank.

Wrexham’s move for Owen Beck hints at new role for Liberato Cacace

Should Wrexham complete a move for Beck, it would mean that another left-sided defender would be added to the squad alongside Cacace.

Cacace can play a number of roles and Beck’s arrival could indicate that Parkinson is planning to use the New Zealand international in an attacking midfield role.

Having played there 12 times in Serie A for Empoli last season, it provides Parkinson with versatility in his squad.

McClean has also featured in the middle of midfield during pre-season and with Ollie Rathbone suffering an ankle injury, the captain could begin the campaign in that role, allowing Beck or Cacace to play at left wing-back.
