Wrexham are showing their intent in the transfer market as the club continues to tie up deals for quality Championship players.

With the additions of young talents such as Liberato Cacace and George Thomason, the Wrexham boss has moved quickly to add some solid Championship experience to his ranks.

Josh Windass has already impressed Wrexham fans after the 31-year-old playmaker signed a three-year contract in North Wales following his departure from Sheffield Wednesday.

Lewis O’Brien is set to break Wrexham records having completed a medical at the club and although excitement is growing ahead of the new season, one current Wrexham player may be thinking differently.

Jay Rodriguez will fear for his Wrexham place following Josh Windass arrival

Jay Rodriguez was one of Wrexham’s big January transfer window signings that elevated them to promotion from League One and into the second tier for the first time since 1982.

Fans were not overly impressed with Rodriguez last season but the experienced striker became a mainstay in Parkinson’s side and scored some vital goals along the way to second place behind Birmingham.

Rodriguez was used in a role playing just off of strike partner Sam Smith and often found himself very deep looking for the ball.

It restricted him in terms of goal scoring opportunities and Rodriguez didn’t really have the guile or vision to play the role.

Windass arrives at the Racecourse Ground having played that exact position for most of his career and with 13 goals in the Championship last season, he has proven to be effective in it.

Rodriguez will now be fearful of his starting berth under Parkinson as more and more options come to the table for the Wrexham boss.

Jay Rodriguez may see his Wrexham dream disappearing

Rodriguez is dreaming of a Premier League return with Wrexham but news of Windass’s arrival means that dream may be fading away.

Speaking on the latest series of the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary series, Rodriguez claimed: “I’m not giving up hope of making a Premier League appearance again, so let’s hope it’s with Wrexham.”

Having only arrived in January after signing an 18-month contract at the club, it is unlikely Wrexham will look to offload Rodriguez this summer.

However, hopes of playing a starring role in Wrexham’s Championship campaign look to be slipping away from the 35-year-old.
