Wrexham have wrapped up a third signing in a matter of days after completing a deal to sign free agent attacker Josh Windass.

Wrexham’s pre-season tour of Australia and New Zealand brought one win and two defeats, and Phil Parkinson has ramped up his recruitment drive in recent days.

Liberato Cacace joined Wrexham on Friday night as his club-record move from Empoli went through without a hitch.

Wrexham then snapped up George Thomason in a £1.2million move from Bolton Wanderers on Monday.

It’s now three signings in the space of five days, with Josh Windass completing his move to Wrexham on a three-year deal.

Windass left Sheffield Wednesday last week, and Wrexham have wasted no time in securing his signature.

Wrexham fans on Josh Windass

Windass offers proven Championship quality in the final third, having scored 13 goals for Sheffield Wednesday last season.

The 31-year-old has joined Wrexham for free, but would have been worth much, much more on the market had he not ripped up his Wednesday deal.

Wrexham have benefited by signing Windass, adding him as the second attacking signing of the summer after Ryan Hardie’s move.

Wrexham fans have taken to social media to celebrate the signing, with supporters believing that Windass is a ‘massive addition’.

Some think Windass is Wrexham’s best signing of the transfer window and is a ‘significant’ capture for Parkinson ahead of the Championship season.

Others called Windass an ‘outrageous’ and ‘unreal’ signing, believing that he will make a huge impact in the final third.

Here are some of the reactions on X as Wrexham confirm the signing of Windass…

Wrexham fended off major competition for Windass

Attackers with the quality of Windass don’t often become available for free, especially those who are already proven at Championship level.

Unsurprisingly, Windass received plenty of interest as Championship clubs scrambled to try and secure his signature.

Reports on Sunday suggested that Coventry City and Norwich City wanted Windass, and were still looking to hijack Wrexham’s move.

Wrexham managed to fend off that competition and secure Windass in a major boost to Parkinson’s attacking options.

Free transfers don’t always look like signals of intent, but this move for Windass is a real statement for Wrexham and a coup ahead of Championship rivals.
