Sheffield Wednesday’s latest transfer plans could hand Wrexham a huge boost in their pursuit to land a striker this summer.

Wrexham’s chase for Sheffield Wednesday duo Bailey Cadamarteri and Michael Smith is well documented.

The Reds were first linked with taking Cadamarteri on loan from Hillsborough and were reportedly front-runners to land him.

As for Smith, Wrexham was cited as his ‘most likely destination’ at the start of August however, the 32-year-old has since scored against Plymouth Argyle and played in each of their three matches this season.

In an update that dropped on Wednesday, it seemed more likely for Phil Parkinson to land Cadamarteri than Smith but promising news has since emerged on that front.

Sheffield Wednesday eye two new strikers as Wrexham handed boost

As reported by journalist Alex Miller, the Owls are hopeful of securing a loan deal for Brighton & Hove Albion striker Mark O’Mahony before the window shuts.

Remarkably, the 19-year-old isn’t the only forward the Yorkshire outfit have been discussing, with the chance that two new players arrive ahead of deadline day.

For Wrexham and Parkinson, this is extremely good news, as it means their chances of landing one of Smith or Cadamarteri have significantly increased.

Wednesday currently have several striking options to select from, including Ike Ugbo, Jamal Lowe and Charlie McNeill while adding another two to the mix would only push Smith and Cadamarteri further down the pecking order.

The duo are rated highly by Danny Rohl, who brought Smith on at half-time in the 4-0 loss to Sunderland but it looks as though he’s not a long-term part of the German’s plans.

Michael Smith and Bailey Cadamarteri have to push for Wrexham move

The profile of striker Wrexham have been eyeing throughout this window is a tall and physically imposing figure who can play alongside Paul Mullin.

Smith answers those attributes emphatically and brings deadly finishing at League One level, having plundered 34 goals combined in his previous two campaigns in the third tier.

As for Cadamarteri, he would be a loan option, who would offer competition for the likes of Ollie Palmer and Jack Marriott up top.

In an ideal scenario, Wrexham would rather sign the experienced Smith, who guarantees goals rather than someone who still needs to develop into the finished article.

Parkinson is unlikely to sign both players this summer but one is certainly possible and the pair must now push for a move out of Hillsborough after seeing this latest news.

Smith, in particular, deserves to be the main striker at a club and Wrexham can fulfil that promise, whereas at Sheffield Wednesday, he could end up being the fifth or sixth choice if Rohl lands two strikers.

In what looked an increasingly unlikely deal to happen, could now be made possible as the transfer domino effect begins to take shape.
