Wrexham head into their clash with local rivals Shrewsbury Town level on points with promotion rivals Wycombe Wanderers and have the chance to move top of the league with victory.
Wrexham may only stay at the top of League One briefly with Birmingham set to play Exeter however, it would be a huge psychological boost for Phil Parkinson and his players.
The Red Dragons are actively looking to sign a striker in the January transfer window following Paul Mullin’s decline in form and Ollie Palmer’s lack of goals.
With promotion rivals Huddersfield Town signing Joe Taylor from Luton Town, it is now even more imperative that owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney back the club in the transfer market and give Parkinson the tools needed to compete for promotion.

Wrexham interested in signing Bolton forward Dion Charles
According to a report from Football League World this week, Wrexham are set to battle Championship side Derby County to secure the signature of Bolton striker Dion Charles.
Charles is a Northern Ireland international having been capped 22 times and getting on the scoresheet three times for his country.
The 29-year-old also holds a wealth of League One experience having made over 200 appearances in the division and has already scored seven goals this season.
Charles described himself as a ‘nuisance’ for defenders when speaking to The Bolton News earlier on this season and would provide perfect competition for the current Wrexham Squad.
Dion Charles outperforming Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer this season
Ryan Hardie has been linked with Wrexham as well as a number of Championship strikers such as Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt but signing Charles would be the smart move from manager Phil Parkinson.
The striker knows League One better than most in his position and has crafted a career in the division full of goals and threat – something that Wrexham are craving in forward areas.
| Key statistics this season | Charles | Mullin | Palmer |
| Goals | 7 | 2 | 3 |
| Assists | 3 | 0 | 2 |
| Shots on target | 21 | 16 | 10 |
| Shots on target % | 46.7% | 35.6% | 29.4% |
| Tackles won | 14 | 5 | 11 |
Not only has Charles scored more goals that Mullin and Palmer combined but he has also contributed more assists than his Wrexham counterparts combined too.
Charles has produced more shots on target with better accuracy than the Wrexham striking duo and works hard for his team winning 14 tackles and defending from the front.
With January known for being a month where transfer deals can go wrong and values can be inflated, Parkinson would be wise to consider Charles as someone who could guide his team to their objective of promotion this season.
