Wrexham are set to secure a major signing with New Zealand international Liberato Cacace on the verge of arriving from Empoli.

Wrexham fans have been waiting for summer signing number three, and a deal now looks to be imminent.

Reports suggest that Wrexham are set to sign Liberato Cacace in a £2.2million raid on Italian club Empoli.

The deal could rise to around £2.6 million, with Wrexham poised to set a new transfer record.

The New Zealand international predominantly plays as a left-back and is likely to slot into a left wing-back role at Wrexham.

This is a major addition for Wrexham, but Cacace’s arrival may push others down the pecking order.

Liberato Cacace deal pushes Sebastian Revan down the pecking order

Wrexham surely have a huge role in mind for Cacace, given the club-record fee being paid for his services.

James McClean is Wrexham’s captain, and Parkinson will certainly continue to depend on him throughout the Championship campaign.

Wrexham have two more left wing-backs, though, and few could blame them for considering their futures as Cacace prepares to join.

Sebastian Revan is one of those players, as he may now be third or even fourth choice left wing-back ahead of the new season.

Revan joined Wrexham from Aston Villa last summer and looked to be a hugely exciting addition as competition for McClean.

Revan impressed for Rotherham United in the Championship and dazzled during Wrexham’s pre-season campaign.

The League One campaign just never really got going for Revan, and he failed to make a single appearance after the 2-0 defeat at Reading in March.

McClean was so consistent over the course of the season that Revan just couldn’t find a way into the side on a consistent basis.

Revan may have hoped for another bright pre-season campaign to get himself back on track, but Wrexham now look set to bring in Cacace.

Revan can’t afford to have another season living off scraps around the Wrexham first team, and Cacace’s imminent arrival may spark a summer move.

Sebastian Revan loan move would make sense

Wrexham know that Revan has considerable potential – that’s why he was signed in the first place.

The 22-year-old is quick and tricky down the left flank and has shown flashes of his quality in the final third.

Those moments have been fleeting, but Wrexham would be wise to now send Revan out on loan to a League One team for regular playing time.

Revan has previously featured in the Championship, but his disappointing campaign last season means a step down to play week in and week out at League One level could be perfect for his development.

Wrexham are growing so rapidly that young signings can sometimes find themselves in a tricky position as more and more quality is added.

Revan finds himself in that spot now, where he needs minutes to develop, but is watching on as Wrexham spend on Cacace.

Wrexham surely still have hopes for Revan to feature regularly in the future, but Cacace’s move should lead to a loan move being discussed for Revan before the end of the transfer window.
