Wrexham will surely sign some big names this summer as they gear up for what will be an incredibly tough Championship campaign.
Wrexham have been promoted to the Championship, earning a third-straight promotion after another stunning campaign under Phil Parkinson.
Now though it’s crunch time for the veteran gaffer who has a massive task ahead of him this summer, with his Wrexham side desperately in need of some Championship quality to even stand a chance next time round.
Parkinson says Wrexham won’t sign any superstars this summer. Instead he’ll maintain his previous transfer philosophy of signing players who fit in with the dressing room, and he’ll likely keep on signing some experienced names too.
One such player could be Jonny Evans. It’s been suggested that Evans could be a good summer signing for Wrexham as he looks set to leave Man United as a free agent this summer.

Three reasons why Wrexham should sign Jonny Evans ahead of Man United release
Jonny Evans is a serial winner with Man United
In two spells with Man United the 37-year-old centre-back has won three Premier League titles, a Champions League, two League Cups, an FA Cup, four Community Shields and a Club World Cup.
He’s won just about everything in his career including promotions and titles elsewhere. If there’s such a thing as an experienced pro, it’s Evans, who’s also played 107 times for Northern Ireland. Experience is once again going to be key to Wrexham’s success in 2025/26.
Wrexham have few options at centre-back
Wrexham don’t have the biggest squad. There’s positions on the pitch where Parkinson is quite light and centre-back is one of them, especially considering he likes to play with three in the middle of defence.
On top of that, Eoghan O’Connell is out of contract this summer. Although he’s bound to land a new deal after his impressive showing in 2024/25, there’s not yet been any news of a new deal, so bringing in Evans ASAP would give Wrexham some security should they not be able to agree terms with O’Connell.

Jonny Evans would be the perfect mentor for Max Cleworth
At centre-back Wrexham have a star in the making: Max Cleworth. Cleworth is Wrexham’s Player of the Season for 2024/25 and deservedly so. He made the step up to League One with ease and he deserves his spot in the Championship.
It’s going to be another battle for the 22-year-old next season, but potentially having someone like Evans alongside him in defence could work wonders for his development.
Evans has such vast experience in the game and as both a defensive partner and as a mentor off the pitch, Evans could help Cleworth take his game to that next level.
