Wrexham have seen their League One form take a dramatic downturn over the last month or two.
Next up for the Red Dragons is a meeting with Mansfield Town on Sunday, February 23rd.
Mansfield are one of the most out-of-form teams in League One right now but may still prove a tough test for Wrexham.
The Red Dragons are much weaker when playing away from home this term and even when they have been at the Racecourse Ground of late, Wrexham set an unwanted record.
In turn, their chances of winning promotion to the Championship for the 2025/26 season via the top two are fading.
Birmingham City were dealt a blow this week but are still 11 points clear of Phil Parkinson’s side.
As a result, something, or several things probably need to change if Wrexham are get back to their best.
Wrexham need to axe Eoghan O’Connell vs Mansfield Town
Eoghan O’Connell started the season as one of Wrexham’s main centre-backs and in the first few months of the season, was excellent.
However, the 29-year-old’s form has taken a big dive in the last few months of the campaign.
Wrexham fans sent a clear demand to Parkinson after a defeat to Shrewsbury Town in January, urging him to drop O’Connell for Scarr.
One expert wanted O’Connell axed shortly after that performance as well and it’s clear he needs to come out of the team again.
He started the meeting with Leyton Orient on Tuesday but Wrexham once again struggled to look anywhere close to their best defensively.
Wrexham recent defensive record is concerning
Should O’Connell come out of the team, it’s likely Dan Scarr will be the man to come in at the centre of the back three.
But it’s not just him who has let Wrexham’s defence down in recent months, as evidenced by their defensive record.
The Red Dragons previously had the best backline in League One but that record has long since been taken by Birmingham.
