Phil Parkinson must consider summer loan exit for ‘brilliant’ Wrexham player after tricky 24/25 season

Whilst there’s bound to be some permanent departures from Wrexham this summer, there could also be some temporary ones too.

Wrexham have some sorting out to do this summer. Their squad isn’t at Championship level just yet and there are players who will be out of favour following promotion to the second tier.

Phil Parkinson is no doubt hard at work on his preparations for the summer. Parkinson wants to sign some experienced players at Wrexham with attackers seemingly high on his agenda.

There’s also names up top who seem likely to leave like Steven Fletcher who is out of contract this summer, with Sam Smith having made that no.9 spot his own following his £2million move from Reading in the January transfer window.

And since Wrexham won promotion to the Championship there’s been a number of attacking names linked. Wrexham are interested in signing Callum Robinson and Ryan Hardie who were both relegated from the Championship in 2024/25.

If they join it could shuffle the pecking order somewhat. One man who could quickly fall down it is Modou Faal.

Wrexham attacker Modou Faal could be loaned out this summer

Wrexham signed Faal for £590,000 last summer. But the former West Brom man, who moved to the Recourse on a three-year deal, failed to make a single league start in 2024/25, featuring just eight times in League One without scoring.

Faal had injury troubles in 2024/25. But at 22 years old he remains a player with bags of potential, and Parkinson is a big fan of Faal too, describing the Gambian as a ‘brilliant’ player earlier in the season when speaking about his link up play with Jon Dadi Bodvarsson.

Maybe Faal is better playing with a big target man partner. If so that could be bad news for him as Parkinson now seems to prefer a lone striker in Smith. Either way Faal needs to be playing next season and so a loan move could be ideal.

Wrexham may have to loan Modou Faal lower down than expected

Faal remains a quite inexperienced player for 22. But he’s had some good loan spells in his career with the likes of AFC Fylde, Doncaster Rovers and Walsall. Those spells were spent lower down in the Football League, though; in League Two with the latter two clubs.

Having just had a nightmare first season at Wrexham the Dragons may need to consider sending Faal right down to League Two in a bid to ensure he gets regular game time, and to ensure he can get back to scoring ways.

Then again, having spent well on signing him and no doubt having high hopes for his future, Parkinson may risk sending him to a League One club for the campaign. Either way, if Wrexham do decide to loan him out then he’d surely have a lot of suitors.
