Wrexham are set for a historic transfer window this summer.

Phil Parkinson is already hard at work trying to mould a 25-man squad fit to tackle the Championship and Wrexham’s owners have vowed to be ‘aggressive’ in the market.

Wrexham are interested in Lewis Travis from Blackburn Rovers and have also offered contracts to Premier League duo Aaron Cresswell and Craig Dawson.

A new striker is also on the radar and Wrexham have held talks with Danny Ings over a potential move to the Racecourse Ground. However, Parkinson can break two pieces of club history by looking a little further afield…

Wrexham should sign Luis Suarez from Almeria

The pursuit of a striker has seen them talk to Ings and Wrexham are interested in Sunusi Ibrahim from MLS side CF Montreal.

However, Parkinson has the opportunity to break two Wrexham records by pursuing Almeria striker Luis Suarez this summer.

Suarez has been in sensational form in La Liga 2 this campaign and as per Spanish outlet Eldes Marque has been hugely ‘influential’ in Almeria’s quest for promotion.

Valued at just over £5m, the Red Dragons would be breaking their transfer record for the second time this year after the acquisition of Sam Smith in January.

Suarez would also be the first signing from overseas under the ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney and represent a change in strategy from the club.

Luis Suarez record and wages

Suarez’s season is yet to be completed with Almeria still in the La Liga 2 playoffs but facing a 2-1 deficit against Real Oviedo after the first leg.

The Colombian striker is on a reported £23,665 a week in Spain as per Capology and should Almeria fail to get over the line, the 27-year-old would represent a unique opportunity for the Red Dragons.

Jay Rodriguez is currently the highest earner at the club but Wrexham’s contract offer to Tom Cairney shows that the club are willing to change that this summer.

Wages would not be a problem luring Suarez, it is just whether Parkinson would trust a player with no experience in English football to hit the ground running in North Wales.
