Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson will be expecting his side to notch their first win of the season after revising Hull City’s shocking record in the EFL Cup.
Wrexham will entertain Hull City at the Racecourse Ground in the first round of the EFL Cup.
The Red Dragons suffered defeat in their first game of the season away at Will Still’s Southampton, courtesy of two late, crushing goals by Ryan Manning and Jack Stephens.
On Tuesday evening, Phil Parkinson is expected to make several changes to his Wrexham side in the cup against fellow Championship opposition, which as a result will likely see Ryan Hardie lead the line for the Red Dragons in favour of the injured Kieffer Moore.
Parkinson will be keen to beat his former side Hull City, who he was sacked from nearly 20 years ago. Not only that, but he will be fancying his side’s chances after noting Hull City’s shocking EFL Cup record in recent history.

Wrexham will face Hull City side who have a shocking EFL Cup record
The Red Dragons have endured difficulty in the EFL Cup since the 2023/24 season, which was the first time they took part in the competition since 2007.
The 2023/24 EFL Cup campaign saw Wrexham lose to Bradford City on penalties in the second round. In the year after the Red Dragons re-entered the competition after a 16 year hiatus, they lost 4-2 at home against a high-flying Sheffield United side who would go on to finish 3rd in the Championship.
It has been difficult for Wrexham to put a run together in the EFL Cup, but things have been drastically worse for Hull City in recent years in the competition.
In the last four seasons, Hull City have gone out of the first round each year.
The furthest that the Tigers have gone in the competition was the semi-finals in the 2016/17 season, where they lost out to Man United across two legs.

Phil Parkinson will be keen to put cup run together
The 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons saw Wrexham put a run together in the prestigious FA Cup, coming short in the fourth round on both occasions to Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers, respectively.
However, the EFL Cup has brought up difficulties for Phil Parkinson’s side in the previous two seasons, and there is no better time to quash that record than against a side with a worse record.
Putting together a cup run will have its benefits for Wrexham, who would be in line for potential revenue, whether it is ticket sales or through more games being broadcasted. Above all, it would be brilliant to see Parkinson’s side put together a run and notch some success in the cup competitions.
