Pressure is on Phil Parkinson to end unwanted Wrexham trend, there are no excuses against Sheffield Wednesday

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson may be feeling the pressure to correct one prominent Red Dragons issue as they face Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.

Wrexham welcome Sheffield Wednesday to the Racecourse Ground this weekend as both sides look to get their first points on the board of the 2025/26 Championship season.

It has been a challenging start to the campaign for Wrexham, and whilst they have shown promise against both Southampton and West Brom, Phil Parkinson’s side have still been somewhat lacking in certain departments.

One area of concern for the Red Dragons is in attack; Wrexham have accumulated the joint-most chances created in the Championship, but many opportunities in front of goal have been missed.

Fortunately, this weekend is set to provide Parkinson with an opportunity to correct these errors, but pressure will be on to do so.

Wrexham must show more of a clinical edge in Sheffield Wednesday clash

Wrexham will be expected to dispatch Sheffield Wednesday this weekend due to the concerns that the Owls have faced, which as a result have severely depleted their first-team options.

Sheffield Wednesday have been left with a void of experience in their side, with several youngsters filling in, most notably in between the sticks.

Owls goalkeeper Pierce Charles is injured for their trip to Wrexham, and it is expected that Phil Parkinson’s side will face off against a highly inexperienced goalkeeper at this level.

This should hopefully provide Wrexham with the opportunity to correct their woes in front of goal, and there will be added expectation that they can convert their chances against a struggling Championship side.

Phil Parkinson needs Nathan Broadhead to shine after Josh Windass’ injury

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has brought many forwards through the doors of the Racecourse Ground this summer, all of which have proven Championship experience.

However, after spending significant amounts of money on a handful of players, one who has notably shone is Josh Windass.

Unfortunately, the former Sheffield Wednesday player is injured and will not get the opportunity to play against his former side, meaning that the other Wrexham forwards will have to step up.

Wrexham signed Nathan Broadhead for £10m, and there is plenty of expectation that the Welshman can get on the scoresheet against Sheffield Wednesday, where he is likely to be handed his first start under Parkinson.
