Kemar Roofe must appeal to Wrexham
Parkinson must now explore the free agent market just days after ruling it out – and it’s slim pickings at this stage.
Any free agent will be arriving with no pre-season under their belt and with a real lack of match fitness.
Wrexham will be assessing multiple options but one name stands out if we are being more realistic than suggesting a deal for Mario Balotelli.
Kemar Roofe surprisingly remains a free agent having left Rangers at the end of last season.
The 31-year-old hit 26 goals in 63 league games for Rangers after Steven Gerrard paid £4.5million to sign him from Anderlecht in 2020, as noted by La Derniere Heure.
Roofe helped Rangers win a league title and even scored from his own half in the Europa League against Standard Liege in 2020.
A Jamaican international, Roofe has scored goals in League Two and the Championship in years gone by and would surely still thrive at League One level.
Roofe has previously been hailed as ‘terrific’ by Tony Cascarino having shown predatory instincts in the penalty area whilst also being able to drop deep and get on the ball.
Roofe’s flexibility in attack means that he could play right up with the impressive Paul Mullin or drop deeper and feed off Ollie Palmer in attack.
Playing at League One level may not have been in Roofe’s plans after leaving Rangers, but Wrexham certainly need to at least ask the question non whether he would be interested.

There is just one major concern over Roofe
If there is one problem with signing Roofe, it’s that his injury record at Rangers was less than ideal.
Roofe picked up knock after knock at Rangers and Transfermarkt suggest that he missed 96 Rangers games during his four years at the club.
That is an alarming number and the last thing Wrexham want is to sign a striker, only to then see them go down with injury too.
Wrexham would, of course, need to put Roofe through a rigorous medical to find out whether he can cope with the League One workload.
In terms of pure quality, Roofe would be a huge addition though and certainly a player who can aid Wrexham’s promotion hopes if fit enough to play.
