Wrexham are on course to make history and win three promotions in a row but one man is standing in their way.

Next up for Phil Parkinson’s side is a meeting with Bristol Rovers on Friday afternoon – a tie they should be winning.

Wrexham then face Charlton Athletic on Monday, which is likely to be their hardest remaining fixture of the run-in.

Going into what is set to be a busy and crucial few days, the Red Dragons are one point above third-place Wycombe Wanderers.

Wycombe do have a superior goal difference, but on paper at least, Wrexham are favourites to win promotion via second spot.

Wycombe manager praises player amid promotion push

This is largely down to the fact that the Chairboys are only playing teams inside the top nine during their final four matches.

Wycombe face Bolton Wanderers on Friday and one Wrexham transfer target could aid the club in their promotion push.

However, Mike Dodds’ men are not expected to give up on their automatic push without a fight.

After a brief dip in form, they have secured two crucial wins in the space of a week, in no small part due to goalkeeper Will Norris.

Wycombe have not looked their usually free-scoring selves in back-to-back 1-0 wins, but the efforts of Norris have helped them earn a valuable six points against Huddersfield Town and Stevenage.

On Norris’ importance in recent games, Dodds told the Buck Free Press:

“He made a big save on Tuesday night [against Huddersfield] and he made a brilliant save today [against Stevenage] – he’s only been called upon once or twice in the last two games and he’s delivered.

“It’s another clean sheet, and the team feels solid – they can provide Will with so much security.

“He is a very good goalkeeper.”

Wycombe boss Mike Dodds on promotion battle with Wrexham

If Norris keeps up his current form, it could be enough to see Wycombe beat all four of their upcoming opponents and clinch second place.

And for the time being, at least, Dodds remains confident they are firmly in the picture for automatic promotion.

He said: “Do we want it to be a bit more comfortable? Of course, we do.

“But, we have shown after the Reading game [Wycombe lost 1-0] there is still a togetherness as we still believe.”
