Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds told exactly what to do with Paul Mullin after zero minutes in 14

The future of Paul Mullin at Wrexham continues to be a major talking point after his axe from the first-team.

Paul Mullin scored for Wrexham in a Central League fixture recently, but when it comes to minutes at senior level, they have been few and far between in 2025.

The striker started in the 3-2 defeat to Stevenage on January 28 – the Red Dragons’ first home loss in over 10 months.

A few days later, Wrexham opted to sign Sam Smith from Reading and Jay Rodriguez from Burnley – deals that have not been ideal for Mullin.

The 30-year-old had a small injury problem after Stevenage but, even since returning to fitness, has not made a single appearance at the Racecourse Ground.

In fact, after Mullin watched from the stands versus Wigan Athletic on Saturday, he’s now failed to feature in the club’s last 14 league matches.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds told to give Paul Mullin a chance in Championship

Following the arrivals of Smith and Rodriguez, Mullin and Ollie Palmer had transfer interest late in the winter window.

The pair stayed put, but a lot of debate regarding the long-term star’s futures at the club has followed.

Some suggest Mullin is done at Wrexham and has probably played his last game for the club.

Now though, EFL pundit and Wrexham fan Liam Grice has urged the club not to sell the Englishman in the summer and give him a chance in the Championship.

Speaking to Football League World, he said: “I do agree that maybe the step up to the Championship would be a bit too far for him, but I feel it would be a bit harsh to just bin him off given everything he’s done for the club, and I know there’s no room to be sentimental, but if there’s one player you were going to be sentimental about, it is Paul Mullin, just because of how much he’s done for us.

“I think he deserves a chance to prove he’s here to fight for the club and given the opportunity to win us another promotion, and hopefully if we do go up, give him a chance in the Championship and see what he can do.”

What Phil Parkinson has said about Paul Mullin

Wrexham are in a difficult position when it comes to their club legend, who has scored over 100 goals for them.

It’s clear the club would not be where they are right now without the striker, but results have improved in his absence, losing just two in 14 compared to three defeats in five before he was axed.

Phil Parkinson commented on Mullin and Palmer last month, leaving the door open to returns.

He said: “The lads out of the team like Mulls and Ollie, who have both made significant contributions for us, they’re right with the group training hard every day and waiting for the moment because you never know when that moment is going to come, and you’ve got to be prepared for it as Lewis Brunt was at the weekend.”

However, with just four games to go, neither striker has made a return to the matchday squad.
