Wrexham have just won promotion to the Championship, and history suggests they will be looking to bring in players with Premier League experience this summer.
Rob McElhenney spoke on Wrexham’s goal once again in an interview that was released this week.
He yet again confirmed the plan is to take the Red Dragons all the way up to the Premier League.
McElhenney hinted at going for promotion again as well in a recent social media post, playing down the idea of ‘consolidation’ in 2025/26.
It likely means we are going to see another busy summer transfer window at the Racecourse Ground.
And, if history is anything to go by, there will be players from the top flight of English football targeted.
Since Ryan Reynolds and Rob took over, Wrexham have always looked to bring in players who have shone at a higher level.
The likes of Paul Mullin, Ollie Palmer and Elliot Lee arrived when the club were still in the National League.
In League One, Wrexham already had Championship-proven assets in the form of James McClean, Matty James, Dan Scarr, and Jay Rodriguez.
So, with this in mind, we have taken a look at three Premier League free agents who the club could target this summer as they gear up for a campaign in the second tier.

Three Premier League free agents Wrexham could sign
Danny Ings
Wrexham already have a very well-stocked striker department but there was a lack of goals from a number of players this season.
Steven Fletcher went into the final day as the top scorer with eight, and he is out of contract in June and can no longer feature for 90 minutes.
As a result, some form of centre-forward arriving would make sens,e and Danny Ings could be a solid option.
He’s scored well over 100 goals throughout his career, including 72 in the Premier League, 27 in the Championship, and one for England.
The West Ham United man is now 32 and has only played 270 minutes of Premier League football in 2024/25. But he could still be a useful asset when dropping down to the second tier.

Nathaniel Clyne
Nathaniel Clyne is another player with plenty of experience in the Premier League and at international level.
He may be 34, but he has still been able to feature 13 times for Crystal Palace this term in a variety of positions.
Clyne is a natural right-back and has plenty of experience operating as a wing-back in a back-five.
Wrexham already have two solid right-sided defenders, but as Ryan Longman can play on the left as well, the Palace man would provide more quality depth on that side.
He’s featured as a right-sided centre-back in a five-man defence this season as well, which is another way he could be used in the Championship if Max Cleworth needs a rest or is injured/suspended.
Craig Dawson
Craig Dawson is another 30+ player, but Phil Parkinson’s transfer model has generally been focused on recruiting experienced players, and so far, it’s worked well.
Dawson has over 300 Premier League appearances under his belt, with his experience and leadership attributes likely to prove invaluable to any side.
He has lost his place for Wolverhampton Wanderers in recent months, but still lined out in the Premier League 15 times in 2024/25.
