As Wrexham close in on a move for Man City star Issa Kabore on a loan deal, a number of players and staff are set to be significantly affected.

It could prove to be a busy deadline day for Phil Parkinson and Wrexham as the Red Dragons boss looks to further develop his squad for the Championship.

Wrexham have already made a host of signings this summer, having prioritised Championship experience following promotion from League One to the second tier.

The Red Dragons have also looked abroad for recruits, including the exciting wing-back Liberato Cacace.

While Liberato Cacace’s arrival has bolstered the left flank, Wrexham are now closing in on a Premier League talent to cover the other side.

Wrexham are ‘close to finalising’ a deal for Man City defender Issa Kabore, who is set to arrive at the Racecourse Ground on a season-long loan.

Following his arrival, there are set to be many winners, including Phil Parkinson himself.

The winners as Wrexham agree to sign Man City defender Issa Kabore

Phil Parkinson

Wrexham have been shrewd in the summer transfer window so far, and this appears to be another tidy deal by the Red Dragons.

It looks set to significantly benefit Phil Parkinson, who will be keen to have more squad depth at right wing-back.

Parkinson’s options on the right flank include Ryan Longman and Ryan Barnett, so for a side hoping to finish in the higher echelons of the Championship, they will significantly benefit from the arrival of Issa Kabore from Man City.

With spells at Marseille, Werder Bremen, and Luton Town in the Premier League, he boasts a wealth of experience at just 22 years old.

Man City

The deal will see Man City significantly benefit, whether it is getting a season of development out of one of their players or simply taking him off the wage bill.

For a few seasons, Issa Kabore has been surplus to requirements at Man City, and a move away from the club felt inevitable this summer.

Due to Wrexham’s recent success, Man City will have been delighted to see Phil Parkinson’s side make an enquiry over the loan deal, with Premier League clubs showing a clear understanding that the Racecourse Ground is a brilliant place to see the younger players develop.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac

The Wrexham owners are all about the publicity and what can bring as many eyes on to the football club, and this signing will certainly do that.

Bringing in a proven talent from Man City, who has played in the Champions League and Premier League, will turn many heads, which of course has brilliant knock-on effects for the club.

The fact that they are able to sign a player of Issa Kabore’s calibre is all credit to Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, without whom this would not be possible.

Ryan Longman

Following the start of the 2025/26 Championship season, we have seen a bright start from Ryan Longman on the right, who, in particular, shone in the first half of the 2-2 home draw with Sheffield Wednesday.

However, the deal for Wrexham to sign Issa Kabore appears to be a sign that Phil Parkinson wants a stronger option in his position, which could lead to Longman playing as a back-up option to the Man City loanee.

Longman, who joined the club in January 2025, can be brilliant with the ball, causing opposition defences all kinds of problems, and he will feel as though his performances so far this season command a starting place in the side for the long term.

Ryan Barnett

For similar reasons to Ryan Longman, Ryan Barnett will have been keen to play an integral role for Wrexham this season, but the arrival of Issa Kabore looks set to tarnish that.

A large crop of Wrexham players were always set to lose out due to Phil Parkinson’s persistent recruitment process of bringing in many new signings, and Barnett looks set to be the most recent installment of a player finding himself potentially disposed of.
