Winners and losers from a Kieffer Moore transfer to Wrexham, including Ollie Palmer and Jay Rodriguez impact

Wrexham are not finished with their transfer business just yet despite already adding six players to Phil Parkinson’s squad this summer.

Wrexham still have a large chunk of their budget left and are prepared to go big on a forward acquisition as they prepare for their Championship opener at Southampton.

The Red Dragons have been linked with a move for Sheffield United striker Kieffer Moore after already having acquired Ryan Hardie in the centre forward position.

Parkinson needs to sell players in order to comply with the EFL’s 25-man squad rule and Wrexham Insider has investigated the potential impact that a move for Moore would have on the current players.

Winners from a potential Kieffer Moore transfer to Wrexham

Ryan Longman

Ryan Longman has been Wrexham’s most impressive player during pre-season so far and would be excited by the prospect of Moore arriving at the club.

Longman has excelled in beating his full back and delivering crosses into the box and you can’t help but get the feeling that his number of assists would skyrocket with Moore lurking on the end of them.

The Welsh international is a real threat in the air and his intelligent movement often gets him into brilliant goal scoring opportunities.

Longman can deliver the quality that Moore requires and it appears to be a partnership made for the Racecourse Ground next season.

Josh Windass

Josh Windass has been brought into the club for his creativity and experience at scoring goals in the second tier.

Windass has a point to prove at Wrexham but there is no doubt that having a player like Moore to feed off would be of great benefit to the former Sheffield Wednesday man.

It is unclear whether Parkinson will use Windass as a second striker or in a deeper midfield role, however, Moore’s ability to hold the ball up and bring others into play will be good news for Windass getting on the ball and making things happen.

Losers from a potential Kieffer Moore transfer to Wrexham

Sam Smith

Sam Smith arrived at Wrexham as the club’s record transfer and the main man in firing the Red Dragons to promotion.

Smith was excellent in the final months of the League One campaign and his seven goals were crucial in his side pipping Wycombe Wanderers to the final automatic promotion place.

However, Smith is unproven at Championship level and following the acquisition of Hardie and the interest in Moore, he suddenly might be fearing for his place.

Injury has meant that the 27-year-old has not featured in pre-season and should he miss the start of the campaign, he may find it a struggle to get back into Parkinson’s first XI.

Jay Rodriguez

Jay Rodriguez was also a big-name signing back in the January transfer window but has struggled to make the desired impact during his Wrexham career so far.

It is fair to say the 35-year-old hasn’t completely won over the Wrexham fanbase and with the arrival of Windass, he would have been fearing for his place.

If Moore also arrives, that is two players that play in the two positions that Rodriguez is capable of playing and he may have to accept a role on the periphery this season.

Ollie Palmer

Another striker surely means the end for Ollie Palmer, especially a player with the physicality and aerial threat of Moore.

Parkinson has told Palmer he can leave the club but the 33-year-old would have been encouraged by the opportunities given to him on the pre-season tour down under.

Palmer played well in the opening game against Melbourne Victory but should Wrexham complete a deal for Moore, the centre forward would be too far down the pecking order to have a chance of making an impact next season.
