Wrexham continue to be linked with a host of Premier League names.

Phil Parkinson wants Premier League experience in his squad and so far this summer the Red Dragons have been targeting players from the top flight.

Wrexham offered a contract to Tom Cairney and also hold interest in duo Aaron Cresswell and Ben Davies as Parkinson prepares for the challenge of the Championship.

Defence is an area that the manager is looking to strengthen with Wrexham linked with a move for Craig Dawson.

Wrexham Insider takes a look at the impact that a potential deal for Dawson has on the current Wrexham squad.

Winners from Craig Dawson’s potential Wrexham transfer

James McClean

James McClean has had the job of being Wrexham’s main set-piece taker and will be licking his lips at the prospect of Dawson’s arrival.

Dawson is one of the most dangerous players in the Premier League at attacking the ball from corners and free kicks and could give the Red Dragons an extra dimension to their game.

McClean has the ability to put the ball on the money from both flanks and could well see his assists tally sky-rocket next season.

Max Cleworth

Max Cleworth was praised by his teammates for winning the young player of the season award yet again but the addition of another defender may in some quarters be seen as a negative for the 22-year-old.

However, Cleworth is ready to become a Wrexham legend in the eyes of many and having someone of Dawson’s experience alongside him can only serve to elevate his game.

Ryan Reynolds praised Cleworth for his work ethic off the pitch and the addition of Dawson would allow the young defender to further refine his game and learn from a player that has played at the very highest level.

Losers from Craig Dawson’s potential transfer to Wrexham

Eoghan O’Connell

Eoghan O’Connell enjoyed an outstanding second half of the campaign to help guide his side to League One promotion.

However, there have been doubts over O’Connell’s future at Wrexham and the addition of Dawson to the back line could be a sign that Parkinson is ready to move in another direction.

O’Connell was injured at the end of the campaign and lost his place to Dan Scarr, whilst it is unclear whether Scarr has moved above him in Parkinson’s eyes, Dawson’s arrival cannot be good news for the Irishman.

Dan Scarr

Scarr himself is another player that won’t be thrilled by the links to Wolves defender Dawson. Wrexham fans were impressed with Scarr for his performances in the final three games of the promotion campaign but he spent most of the season on the bench.

The 30-year-old defender likes to play at the centre of the back three and would face competition from Dawson and O’Connell for that position.

It is unlikely Scarr would be risked playing on the right or left given the risk of exposure to his lack of pace and ability on the ball.
