Wrexham are pushing for promotion back to the Championship and know they are going to have to do everything they can to keep pace with Birmingham City and Wycombe Wanderers.

With the EFL Trophy clash with Port Vale postponed, Wrexham have a bit of a break before their next game away at Shrewsbury Town but things are heating up in the transfer market.

Phil Parkinson is in the market for a new striker following Paul Mullin’s worrying loss of form and several strikers have been linked with the club.

Wrexham want to sign a proven Championship striker but the club may be out of their depth with some of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s potential targets.

Wrexham out of their depth targeting Patrick Bamford

Despite the monumental rise of the Red Dragons, it’s still going to be a task to draw elite-tier players to the Racecourse – such is the case with Patrick Bamford.

After all, Wrexham still compete in League One, while Bamford has considerable experience playing in the Premier League and even representing the England national team.

For this reason, it’ll be hard for Reynolds and McElhenney to lure him to Wales, even with the Hollywood stardom – and pundits agree.

Speaking to Plejmo.com, Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has been giving his thoughts on a potential move for Bamford.

Goodman stated: “With the greatest of respect to Wrexham, it’s a brilliant project with all the glitz and glamour, I think Patrick Bamford would have greater ambition from a footballing point of view.”

The former Wolves striker then went on to claim, “Despite them having a brilliant season, it’s possible Wrexham could still be a League One club next season.”

Bamford has struggled for game time and form for Leeds United this season having made just 11 appearances and is yet to find the back of the net.

However, it seems that Wrexham would be wise to look elsewhere with the signing of Bamford a little beyond them, stats have shown Ryan Hardie to be the best option out of the other strikers linked with the club.

Daniel Farke reveals Leeds are ‘under no pressure’ to sell Patrick Bamford

Speaking at a press conference in December 2024, Leeds manager Danie Farke was asked about Wrexham’s interest in Bamford and fired a stark warning to the Red Dragons.

Farke claimed, “We raised more money than any club in Western Europe in the summer. There is a moment when you have to sell after spending or overspending in the years before. We are a healthy club financially. No pressure to do anything.”

The Leeds boss then went on to speak about the importance of Bamford to his side, “A fit Patrick Bamford is always a good option.”

The news will come as a blow to Parkinson as he looks to add proven quality to his frontline to help with the increasing pressure of the promotion push.
