Wrexham could sign Lynden Gooch on a free transfer

Lynden Gooch is available on a free transfer following his confirmed exit from Stoke City this summer as per the Sunderland Echo.

The American international made 23 appearances in all competitions for the Potters this season and has worked under Parkinson before at Sunderland.

With 105 games in the Championship, contributing four goals and eight assists, it may be the sort of signing that Wrexham are looking for in order to bolster their options for next season.

Gooch can play on the right or left flank and has also had experience playing as a number ten behind the striker. His previous good relationship with Parkinson and his availability could tempt the Red Dragons into making an early move in the summer window.

How Phil Parkinson ‘inspired’ Lynden Gooch at Sunderland

As per the Chronicle Live, Gooch had positive words for the Wrexham boss during his time at the Stadium of Light back in 2020.

Upon return from injury, Parkinson ‘inspired’ the 29-year-old midfielder’s best run of form at Sunderland by giving him belief and a consistent run in the side.

Gooch stated: “The manager has been brilliant with me since he came through the door. I picked up the injury after just two games of him being at the club, but even then he was always telling me how he saw me playing when I was back fit.

“Constant team selection has helped because everyone knows their roles. The front three work together really well and that helps to set things for the whole team. Consistency is the big one and it’s something everyone is talking about.”

Parkinson is set for a busy summer and players will be constantly linked with moves in and out of the club, Harry Redknapp believes Wrexham should sign Jamie Vardy as an example.

However, Parkinson doesn’t want to sign egos having built a squad with a real togetherness and spirit that can carry them a long way in the second tier.

Gooch may not be the most glamorous name fans are hoping for however, with Championship experience and Parkinson’s approval, it could be a shrewd signing for the club.
