Wrexham are on the brink of a third-straight promotion under Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. And promotion would surely trigger a busy summer transfer window.
Wrexham can secure promotion from League One on Saturday if they manage to beat an in form Charlton Athletic side at the Racecourse and if 3rd place Wycombe Wanderers lose away at 6th place Leyton Orient.
It’s a very nervy time for manager Phil Parkinson and owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. But if promotion is secured then the co-owners would surely pump another wad of cash into the club to go out and spend on new players.
And Wrexham would certainly need it. The step up from League One to the Championship is perilous and Wrexham’s current squad would need a bit of a makeover, with extra Championship quality surely needed to compete next season.
But the Dragons could also make very good use of the free agent market. One player in particular could fit right into the starting XI.

Wrexham should keep tabs on Grady Diangana ahead of West Brom release
Parkinson plays an interesting formation at Wrexham with two very wide players, almost in a back-five, and oftentimes a no.10 which is late has been Jay Rodriguez. So a player like West Brom’s Grady Diangana who can fit in on either flank and in the no.10 position, and who also boasts Championship quality and experience, could be absolutely perfect for the Dragons.
Ahead of the summer, it’s reported that Wrexham could have £38million of headroom meaning that they could spend a lot of money on new players. But a bunch of that money could also be used on player wages and attracting players like Diangana who are out of contract and set to leave, but who likely command higher wages.
The 27-year-old, who cost West Brom £18million in 2020, has four goals and three assists in 33 Championship games this season. But in 201 total games for the Baggies, Diangana has chipped in with 25 goals and 22 assists, proving influential throughout his five years at The Hawthorns.
Grady Diangana would be a huge upgrade on Jay Rodriguez
Wrexham fans have been critical of Rodriguez. The 35-year-old has two goals and two assists in 16 League One games following his January move from Burnley, and he remains under contract for next season too.
If the Dragons are promoted and playing with Rodriguez as their no.10 then it’ll leave a lot to be desired. But Diangana coming in would give Parkinson a huge upgrade in that no.10 position.
Not only that but Diangana would give Parkinson an option elsewhere on the pitch and provide an overall higher level of quality in the side. Diangana joining could also tempt a number of other players with similar quality to move to the Racecourse in the summer.
On the whole, this is the type of player that Wrexham need to target if they’re promoted.
