Another huge weekend of football lies ahead in the race for promotion from League One, with Wrexham, Wycombe Wanderers and now Charlton Athletic in a battle for 2nd.

Already, Birmingham City have won promotion and won the league title with four games left to spare. Those behind them have only two games left, with 2nd place still up for grabs.

On Monday, Wrexham won 2-1 away at Blackpool to return to 2nd. Previously Wycombe Wanderers had leapfrogged Phil Parkinson’s side but their 4-0 defeat at home to Charlton Athletic on Monday sees them back into 3rd.

Whilst Charlton did Wrexham a favour that day, it doesn’t bode well for Wrexham as they welcome the Addicks on Saturday. But the Dragons will be spurred on after Addicks boss Nathan Jones called Wrexham a ‘circus’ after his side’s win at Wycombe.

Meanwhile, the Chairboys play away at Leyton Orient. We could yet see another wave of change near the top of the table but if Wrexham win on Saturday then they’ll remain in 2nd. Wrexham can secure promotion on Saturday if Wycombe lose at Orient.

Rich Fay predicts draws all round, including Wrexham vs Charlton Athletic

Speaking on the Rob Ryan Red podcast ahead of the weekend, journalist Rich Fay has given his thoughts ahead of the weekend. Wrexham and Charlton will prove a tricky one to call with both sides having had impressive seasons so far and going into the game on the back of huge wins.

And Wycombe welcome an Orient side currently sitting in 6th and looking to cement their spot in the top six, so that’s another close game to call. And Fay has predicted that Wrexham and Charlton, along with Wycombe and orient will all draw on Saturday, leaving the race for 2nd down to the final day.

Fay said: “This weekend I’m going for Wycombe and Leyton Orient to draw, Wrexham and Charlton to draw as well. I think nothing will change until the last day.”

Who does everyone play on the final day of the season?

There might well be just one game standing between Wrexham and an incredible third-straight promotion under owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

There’s also every chance that the race for 2nd goes to the final day and the chance that Wrexham have to settle for play-offs too.

On the final day of the season, May 3rd, Wrexham play away at Lincoln City whilst Charlton Athletic host strugglers Burton Albion, and Wycombe play play-off outfit Stockport County.
