Wrexham only have themselves to blame that a Wembley final against Birmingham City is not on the horizon.
Owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney dreamed of days out at Wembley following their takeover in 2021 and with 15 minutes to go at the Racecourse Ground against Peterborough, they may well have been organising their latest trip.
Modou Faal produced a stunning finish from Max Cleworth’s excellent pass before George Dobson slammed home a second to put Wrexham in cruise control.
Phil Parkinson slammed his team for then ‘throwing away’ the game as Peterborough struck late on to force a penalty shoot-out, which they emerged as 4-2 winners.
Bradley Ihionvien has mocked Wrexham after the game and this will only add to Parkinson’s frustration at one player in particular.

Phil Parkinson should drop Arthur Okonkwo after latest error
The EFL Trophy semi final turned on one moment as Arthur Okonkwo rushed out of goal and brought down Cian Hayes as his touch had taken him away from goal.
It isn’t the first time in recent weeks that the goalkeeper has been at fault, Okonkwo endured a nightmare against Stevenage in a 3-2 home defeat.
Parkinson admitted to bring Okonkwo back too early from his fractured wrist injury and it appears that the lay off has affected the young keeper.
Okonkwo’s decision making has looked rushed and off since his return from injury and that is down to a lack of match practice and perhaps some nerves regarding his injury.
However, in a vital League One promotion race, this is no time for Wrexham to be carrying passengers and a decision needs to be made about the number one jersey quickly.
Rob Lainton would have been ideal Okonkwo replacement
Wrexham fans praised Rob Lainton after the former keeper joined National League side Altrincham after his release from North Wales.
Lainton has been out of the game since July but amidst the current Wrexham goalkeeping crisis, it is an option that Parkinson should have looked at ahead of the end of season climax.

It wouldn’t have been the first time Parkinson called upon a free agent goalkeeper during a promotion battle after famously securing the services of Ben Foster back in the National League.
However, the Lainton ship has now sailed and the Red Dragons boss must make a decision on his goalkeeper problem before the crucial clash with Bolton.
