Wrexham’s summer transfer window looks like it could take many forms: marquee signings, loans, and plenty of free transfers as well.
The power of free agent signings should never be underestimated, and it’s an avenue that could bring Wrexham a lot of joy in this summer’s transfer window.
Wrexham have a £25million transfer budget and look set to spend their share of money on player wages too, indicating towards a monstrous summer for Phil Parkinson’s side.
Expect the Dragons to oversee something of an overhaul of the playing squad as they gear up for the Championship, after Wrexham won promotion from League One last season.
And expect Parkinson to have an eye on the list of released Premier League players after clubs in the top flight confirmed their retained lists just a couple of days ago.
With that in mind, here are three new free agents who we think could be great additions at the Racecourse this summer…

Massimo Luongo
Central midfield is clearly an area that Parkinson wants to bolster this summer: already we’ve seen Wrexham table a contract offer for Tom Cairney, per reports, whilst Tom Lawrence is a target, along with names like Lewis O’Brien and more.
Ipswich Town have just released central midfielder Massimo Luongo and he’s certainly someone who Wrexham could take a look into this summer. The Australian international played 11 times in the Premier League last season owing to a combination of injury and being out of favour.
But Ipswich fans will tell you he’s a really gifted technical player; as will fans of previous clubs such as QPR and Sheffield Wednesday. If he can prove his fitness this summer then he could be a great addition for the Dragons.
| Stat (Championship) | Luongo’s career record |
| Games | 236 |
| Goals | 16 |
| Assists | 16 |
| Mins-per-goal | 1,152 |
Harry Toffolo
Left-back is a bit of a problem position for Parkinson. James McClean is his no.1 choice there but he’s only backed up by Seb Revan and Jacob Mendy, who both failed to deliver last season.
With that in mind, Parkinson could be tempted into a move for released Nottingham Forest full-back Harry Toffolo. The 29-year-old played only four times in the Premier League this season owing to fall in the pecking order, but he’s been a great servant for the Reds with 46 top flight appearances in the last three seasons.
At 29 as well, Toffolo could be someone who comes in and bolsters that left side for Wrexham for years to come, and when McClean’s Wrexham contract expires in 2026.

Adam Lallana
A man who needs no introduction is Adam Lallana. The former Brighton and Liverpool man has been let go by Southampton following their relegation from the top flight and the 37-year-old struggled with game time last season, featuring 14 times in the Premier League without scoring.
In the Championship though, and as a bit of a squad player at Wrexham, Lallana could be someone who really makes an impact off the bench, propping up that second-striker position where Jay Rodriguez really struggled for Wrexham last season.
The experience he’d bring to the side would be massively helpful, too: he has a Premier league title, Champions League, Club World Cup and much more to his name.
