If you ever needed a reminder of how far Wrexham have come under owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, it’s news of a £50k-a-week contract offer on the table for one of their transfer targets.
Wrexham have lofty ambitions for this summer. Indeed, Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney had lofty ambitions for the club when they arrived four years ago, and they’ve since achieved those ambitions.
But the club doesn’t look set to stop there. Reynolds has predicted Wrexham could play Premier League football within 10 years and Phil Parkinson has the club right on track to achieve that.
Stepping up to the Championship will prove tough. A massive summer transfer window is needed and already we’re seeing several players linked with a move to Wrexham in this summer’s transfer window.
The EFL summer transfer window opens on June 1st and after a week closure in mid-June will re-open until September 1st.

Wrexham offer Fulham ace Tom Cairney £50,000-a-week deal
One name linked with a move to the Racecourse is Tom Cairney. On Thursday it was revealed that Wrexham have held talks with Cairney who looks as though he could leave Craven Cottage this summer, following a successful 10 year spell with the club which has included three promotions from the Championship.
Soon after, Wrexham Insider learned that Cairney would become Wrexham’s highest-paid player. And talkSPORT have also weighed in on the matter claiming that Wrexham have put a stunning £50,000-a-week offer on the table for Cairney. That’s a £2.6million-a-year for the midfielder who’s featured 23 times in the Premier League this season.
Cairney has 352 career appearances with Fulham and has played 318 times in the Championship in his career to date, scoring 45 and assisting 51 more.

Are Wrexham going overboard with the Tom Cairney deal?
On a free transfer, Cairney would be a steal. But maybe not so much at £50,000-a-week, especially when considering that Parkinson likely needs a double figure amount of signings this summer, to keep his side competitive for next season.
If the money is there then £50,000-a-week for Cairney would be fair. But whilst Wrexham do boast a lot of capital, reportedly having £38million of headroom in the summer transfer window, spending £2.6million-a-year of that on one player, and a 34-year-old at that, may raise a few eyebrows.
Nonetheless if Wrexham sign Cairney then it adds a very talented and experienced player to the side. Parkinson and co just need to make sure there’s enough resources to bolster elsewhere in the side, and in January too.
