Wrexham striker Ollie Palmer is expected to depart the club before the transfer deadline on September 1st.

Phil Parkinson is preparing his side for a Carabao Cup second round clash against Preston North End thanks to a late brace from Palmer against Hull City in the previous round.

However, after a challenging start to the Championship season, Parkinson has told Palmer to leave Wrexham this summer and the hunt for a new club is on.

It remains to be seen whether Palmer leaves on a permanent basis or a loan deal, however, the striker once hinted at where he would like to play his football in an ‘ideal scenario’.

Ollie Palmer wanted Wrexham to be in London in ‘ideal scenario’

Speaking on season two episode thirteen of the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary series, Palmer spoke about the struggles of balancing family life with playing for the Red Dragons.

Palmer’s family live in London and the 33-year-old travels between North Wales and his home around his game and training schedule.

Palmer stated: “I think with me I’m not really spending quality time with my children apart from on a Sunday.

“It has been hard for me because I’ve been away from my family, if we could move Wrexham down to London that would be an ideal scenario but that’s unfortunately impossible.

“So just got to keep going, making it work how we are and we’ve kind of found a bit of a middle ground now how I travel up, staying up here and then getting home at the right times.”

Ollie Palmer thought he would end his career at AFC Wimbledon

There is no indication as to where Palmer may end up come the 7pm deadline on September 1st, but the striker would prefer a move closer to his family.

Palmer thought he would end his career at Wimbledon before making the move to the Racecourse Ground and a return to Plough Lane could be a viable option.

Wimbledon have explored the possibility of signing Palmer during this window and their rivals MK Dons have also shown an interest.

Wherever Palmer chooses to take the next step in his career, he will be pleased to get back to playing regular football and will leave with the blessings and well-wishes of everyone involved with Wrexham.
