Wrexham ace’s 2024 statement could give Phil Parkinson boost amid difficult Championship run

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson needs to look past the difficult start to the 2025/26 Championship season and take the advice of one Red Dragons star from last year.

Wrexham have notched just one point in their opening three Championship games since their promotion from League One.

Phil Parkinson’s side have seen success in the EFL Cup, having toppled Hull City and Preston North End to reach the third round, but concerns still lie within the challenging start to their league campaign.

After Wrexham were unable to beat a beleaguered Sheffield Wednesday side at home, questions began to arise on whether Parkinson was the right man to lead the Red Dragons to their ambitions this season.

Things have been tough, but if Parkinson sticks to the advice given by one Wrexham player last season, they will soon be able to emerge from the challenging spell.

Phil Parkinson should take notes from Dan Scarr’s Wrexham prediction to help raise optimism

Back in October 2024, Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham side found themselves in a difficult run of form, having picked up just one win in the previous four after notable defeats against Birmingham City and Stevenage Town, but also only losing twice in nine league games overall so far in the season.

Speaking to Leader Live about the challenges they had faced during that time, Wrexham defender Dan Scarr said: “We probably won some games where we maybe should have come out with a draw.

“We have done well this season so we will pick ourselves up and try and put it right on Saturday. It is nothing to get disheartened about. It is still early in the season, we have only had two losses so we go again.”

As Scarr suggests, there is never a reason to get ‘disheartened’ about a dip in form, especially after promotion from the division below.

Wrexham were always going to take time to settle into the Championship this season due to it being uncharted territory for many of the players, and Parkinson must bear that in mind.

The draw against Sheffield Wednesday was particularly disappointing, but it is about how Wrexham respond, and they did so brilliantly in the EFL Cup against Preston North End. Hopefully, they can use the momentum from that victory and take it on the road to Millwall in the Championship.

Wrexham have glimmer of hope during testing times

Whilst results have not been what was expected of Wrexham following their promotion from League One, performances have been promising.

Wrexham have found themselves on the attacking front in spells against Southampton, West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday, accumulating many chances, but arguably more should have been converted.

New signings Kieffer Moore and Lewis O’Brien have shown their quality, with their Championship experience making a significant difference.

The blueprint for success in the Championship is there for Phil Parkinson, and it is now just a case of waiting for it to stick. Once his Wrexham side can play with more fluidity, whilst also becoming more assured in defence, the results will soon come for the Red Dragons.
